Which Schmidt?

Which do you like better for a keeper set?

I would likely try to cross the SGC to PSA in any case - so assume it would probably be a PSA 8, I guess.

Does it come down to rough cut versus smooth? Centering? Who the PD falls upon?

These are pretty close for me. Thanks for your thoughts.

Don't know why that image isn't landscape format.... it is in photobucket. Sorry - maybe it will update.

    Here are the reverses...

    Hopefully this is landscape...

The SGC for me, though I'm a biased registration guy. I don't really like the rough cut on a Topps card, but that image just pops and I find the PD on Hilton much less distracting than the white spot on Schmidt's cap in the PSA example.

The rough cut has better centering, color, and the PD isn't on the key rookie. I think the SGC slab wins, despite the NM/MT+ card looking sharper at first glance.

  • I agree with the SGC. When looking at the PSA, my focus goes directly to the white dot on Schmidt's hat and not the rest of the card. Plus a rough cut always looks nice.

I am pretty sure I am with you men. I like a roughy, and the PSA Schmidt dot bums me out. A little toning on the edge of the PSA too. Thanks for your thoughts.

I like a roughy as well. Overall I was going to say that was a pretty rough edge, but then, noting the better centering on the SGC, and the PD on Schmidt on the PSA, I'd go with SGC as well. image

Sgc for me too. Better centering. Always buy the card not the holder

Centering trumps all for me, and I also love a nice rough cut. However, if you look at the back scan of the SGC card, those corners don't look too crisp. Not sure it would cross to a PSA 8.

I was hoping that white dot on Schmidt's cap was a result of the scan. Too bad it's on the card. If not, I think it would be a no brainer in favor of the PSA card. otoh, the pd on the Cey and Hilton are pretty noticeable as well.

Really a tough call as I think overall both are nice cards. But I think I'm slightly leaning to the PSA card.

I would go with the SGC. Just picked up an 8 recently as well and waited to find one where I liked the centering.

Kendall Cat...dead centered( problematic issue w/card) copy is a very nice pick up.

Bosox...tough call in my opinion. PSA copy is centered better on front...SGC is centered better on back. It appears PSA copy has the sharper corners...but SGC has the lesser PD. Assuming psa is higher priced...I would choose the SGC for value.

^This and I wouldn't try to crossfit as it is best in the SGC holder. IMO, the top right edge would prevent it crossing to a PSA 8.
