Not surprised anymore. We have definitely turned a new corner in the hobby. Those who have bought and hold are sitting pretty.

I don't see this sale going through. PWCC sold the same card back April for $4400 and now it is $17,500? Something doesn't smell right...

Look at the top two bidders and the number of retractions they have. Not a legit auction.

I personally don't believe half the sales of these big sellers. No offense but the bid retractions on most all big sales is fishy. It sure will be interesting in Jan. to see how the card market is doing.

    +1
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

It would be one thing if this card was dead centered with a possibility of a bump and no recent sales in the last year or two for comps. Having just been sold within the last month makes zero sense IMO.

It's not clear to me what the two bidders were trying to accomplish? Are they working together or is it two scams that got tied up in the same scam?

Why would one shill outbid another shill? Did shill #1 know that shill #2 is a shill? I thought you need one sucker to make this work, I don't see the sucker in the last round of bids.

Not even a nice example of the grade.
  • no way that gets paid
  • Registration a little off, blurry Jim there. One of those cards though is almost never "close to perfect" even in high grade. Seems to always be a trade off with that RC. Blurry photo, but decent corners and color. Other times it's woefully off center, but clear pic of Jim. Etc, etc. If I were going after an 8, especially at that price point, I wouldn't even consider that particular 8. Just my opinion.

I have never seen this card with outstanding registration so that the facial image is clear.

I don't know how those eBay ratings are calculated, but its taken me 3 years to get to 144. The top bidder had a 955 and the 2nd bidder had a 1309 so that at least points to well used accounts. It doesn't make sense, but I just don't have a theory as to what's going on. I didn't follow the Mastro case that closely, but I know it exists - I think you'd have to be pretty fearless to tamper with high value auctions like this.... I know there's a theory that cards at this level are bought by investors, but that's all the more reason this doesn't make sense - if I'm a speculator what is there to make me believe the next sale is going to go higher?

New account with no selling feedback and they list only an $18K card? I'm sure there's nothing shady going on.
