Ebay... Bidders' identities protected?!?!

I didn't win this auction, but when I clicked on the bid history to see how the bidding went so high in the final seconds, I see that the other bidders are "private listing - bidders' identities protected."
I haven't seen this in an Ebay auction for many years when bidders' userids were visible in the bid history. Given that Ebay now hides the bidders' userids anyway, I fail to see what the seller gained by taking this extra step to hide the bidders' identities. Basically he wanted to hide the "a.....5" type entries Ebay provides so you can't see who's repeat bidding and what the bidders' histories are with this particular seller. There seems to be no logical reason why he would want to hide who's making repeat bids, so it only seems to reason that his intent is that he wants to hide how frequently the top bidders bid on his auctions. Perhaps he's shilling his auctions and wants to hide that.
I looked at his other auctions and he does this with every auction.

I love the 3 P's: PB&J, PBR and PCGS.

I just looked from my phone at the bids in the auction linked and can see the bidding history.
You can see the bidding history, but you can't differentiate between bidders like you normally can. You also can't click on the bidder abbreviation to see % of bids that bidder has made with that seller. It's just an added level of anonymity that the seller has selected that seems to only have value to the seller if he's got a shill bidding account.
