I've often wondered how borderless cards get their centering determined and after looking at every graded example of this card on Ebay, I'm left wondering if there is much of an attempt to establish centering.
Centering could be established based on the logo, but it would be arbitrary (I think). But based on every graded PSA and BGS example on ebay, it doesn't look like there's a consensus within or between grading companies. You'll see 10s - even a BGS 10 with the top of his helmet right at the top edge of the card and other 10s and 9.5s where it is shifted down significantly. You'll also note that the amount of white on his right sock that shows differs greatly from card to card.
Does anyone have any insight on this? Anyone ever submit these?
