Advice?

Today I received this message from the eBay winner:

Hi, when I was bidding there were 3 buttons-$190, 191, and 192-something like that. I always bid at the last second but I usually dont use those buttons. I usually enter the amount manually. Anyway the last second when I went to press the $190 button, it turned into a $225 button right as I was pressing it. I'm really sorry to ask but would you let me cancel the transaction? Again I'm really sorry, thanks.

Item no. 322149876639

This is a first for me. How would you handle this?

Nick

to bid you technically agree to complete a transaction.

I do believe him. In the last seconds those buttons do change and fast.

personally, I would cancel the transaction so you get you fees back and offer the 2nd bidder or relist.

I would just cancel. Seems like a reasonable mistake.

They probably are not going to pay for the auction if they send a message like that anyways, so you might as well cancel.

+1 send a second chance to the other bidder if you are satisfied with the amount or relist. This guys not paying you anyways.

That does happen as a bidder if you hit the button instead of manually entering the amount of your bid in the box. The button may say $190, but if another bid comes in simultaneously at that last second to bump the price, your bid will automatically jump to next increment without you realizing it.

I've almost been in this situation but thankfully someone outbid me. Card was in the $400's when I accidentally hit the bid button. Wasn't expecting it to go that high.

I love those buttons. Discovered completely by accident some time ago when my bid was incrementally short by less than a dollar. I hit the highest amount and took the auction at the final second. It's like, if you bid at around 3 seconds and then this amazing feature allows you to be a crazier crazy fool.

In all honesty, I'd be less than jazzed with my purchasing performance this year if not for those buttons.

BTW, did I happen to mention that I love those buttons?

If you guys are going to manually snipe what time remaining usually gives you the final bid without risking time running out before it is registered. I have found 4 seconds about right but even then it seems someone sneaks a bid in at times. 3 seconds seems perfect but sometimes it registers and sometimes eBay says auction over.

i would cxl the transaction simply because the buyer asked politely. Mistakes happen. Its makes it easier to cxl it when the buyer isn't a jerk about it.

Yeah, that's what I did. I canceled the deal; the buyer was pretty cool about it. Card sold the the under-bidder in about 10 seconds.

Not a big deal at all.

    Appreciate the advice!
