1989 Hoops Series 1 wax

I posted a similar question earlier today. Could anybody with experience give me an idea regarding the collation of this product?

Specifically, how many base Jordans or SP David Robinsons should one expect?

    JimMeant,

I am by far no expert, but I bought 2 sealed wax boxes of Series 1 from cardsone.com a few years ago and I only got one Jordan and one Robinson in each box. Hope that helps.

Back in 1989, I opened several boxes and got anywhere from 2 to 6 David Robinson's. I don't recall about the Jordan. I remember being set up at a small local card show and opening a box that contained 6 Robinson's and sold them for about $15.00 to $20.00 each. I was very pleased since the 20 box case cost me $200.00. Those were the good old days.

Unfortunately, they can be searched because of being able to see the top and bottom cards and knowing the sequence of the cards.

I remember collation being pretty sporadic. Also, very easy to search those packs.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • I have opened a ton of this product the last two years, and pulled anywhere between zero and seven Robinson cards per box.

The '89 hoops wax boxes were not sealed were they?

I opened a BBCE wrapped box and 2 packs had a Robinson and Jordan on the backs.

Usually the Robinson RC and Jordan A.S. are in the same pack. These boxes have been selling south of $10 for a long time. Will be interested to see where they go from here.

Not sure about the prices, but am pretty sure the series I have been going for more than $10. Series II has been garbage for a while though

Agreed. BBCE has at least one Series 1 'non-wrapped' for $29 now.

    Thanks,

    Opened a wax box tonight.

    No base Jordans
    No all star Jordans
    1 SP David Robinson
    Lots of Moses Malones

Are hoops cards getting a premium in psa 10? I remember when they first came out, the Robinson was a $60 card, then people realized how much of this product was out there. Would be cool to see prices head north again.

David Robinson PSA 10 - $100-125 (has sold as high as $150 but not recently)

Jordan All Star PSA 10 - $50-75 now...during the high spike two weeks ago it crossed over $95---before jordan spike was a $10-20 card

Jordan base PSA 10 - $100-125 now ...during the high spike two weeks ago got as high as $170...before the spike was a 15-25$ card

PSA 9s of Robinson are scrap for $10 currently but have been as high as $30 in past

PSA 9s of both Jordans are lucky to cross $10-20 at moment, were $30+ during spike but jordan has dropped off on some fleer/hoop highs quite a bit from the fire prices two-three weeks back.

Yes - it's the same Jordan as series 1. You get series 1 cards in series 2 packs.

I saw 5 different Series I boxes over $20 and several BBCE Wrapped for $45-$55. The $12.99 for a destroyed wax box from KK is the outlier on the price
