Ok, I've been looking forever. Need a price.

What's a 1968-S PCGS MS66 RD Lincoln worth? Last time I checked, it had a pop of 53 with just 18 being better. I just can't find a price for it.image

I can't find a price for it either so I can only provide an educated guess: $40.00?

  • Current population is 57 with 18 better... if you want a FMV go to ebay and list it with a $100 reserve but start the bidding at 1 cent (it should cost you about $1.20 for the listing). See how much the coin gets bid up. If you like the ending bid contact the bidder & offer it for that price.
It is possible for people to ask questions for no other reason than to educate themselves. The only stupid questions are those that are never asked.

Heritage archives don't have much here. Though not totally relevant, I paid $18 for a 68-D same grade from a forum member. The pops are real similar.

I'm not sure whether you are buying or selling, so I don't know if this is good news or bad news. The last sale on Teletrade, in April 2001, is listed at $15. I guess that excludes the buyer's fee, so add $5 for that.

    Is anyone interested at $20?

I sold one for $8 recently, because it had some spotting on the obverse. Of course I warned people it was not a great 66RD and priced it accordingly.

You've been looking forever, but never noticed that little "PCGS" link- the first one at the top of this very page. (?)image

    Three clicks away.
"PCGS". "Daily Price Guide"."Lincoln Cents (1959 to date)".
It blows my mind how few people know about the Price Guide, or just plain neglect to use it. OK, yeah, sure, it is not the final word on prices. Nothing is, if you want to make a point of that. Greysheet is better, I'm sure, but does it list all the oddball grades and the 66+ "supergrades"? I don't know. I need to subscribe. Yes, the prices on the PCGS guide run a tad high, at least for some modern stuff. Still, it is a good reference, and better than W.A.G.'s, be they educated or not. Geez. image

Here. Your coin is "worth" seventy-five bucks, according to PCGS.

Not that you could automatically find a buyer at that price, but it gives you a general idea, anyway. I can't believe you can quote population information, yet not find the price of your coin on this site. Hmm. Maybe what is useful to one person is obscure to another.

Your $20 asking price sounds more realistic to me than PCGS' price. However, I am out of the modern coin biz.

I use the price guide all the time, I just can never rely on it. It's not very accurate.

  • When I check the price guide I cut it in half and start from there. It gets me in the ballpark as to what to pay or sell for.

Interestingly though, with some coins you have to double the PCGS price guide and start from there (MS67+ Kennedy halves come to mind).

They should have two price guides; 1) Price guide for those not in the registry and 2) Price guide for those who just can't help themselvesimage Without seeing the coin how can you price it? Copper can be gorgeous or pathetic looking.

See my last post on this thread, and ask yourself an ethical question Brian: If the holder says MS66RD, but there is a flaw, would you list it for sale as MS66RD or MS66RD flawed? Would you ask going price, or discount the price accordingly, say to $8?
