USPS First Class???

I didnt know this, so this is just an FYI for those that sell off ebay on occasion.

Been selling an item on ebay that weighs 14.6 ounces. As of the most recent pricing change, have been able to ship first class. Sold one of these items off ebay, but since I was going to the PO anyway, decided to go ahead and just take it up there and pay there. Found out that if you go to the PO, the first class rate is still at 13 ounces maximum. When asked, the worker said that first class online (or via ebay apparently) is 16 oz, but if you send it locally, it is still only 13 oz. So the item I have been paying around $3.80 for through ebay was going to run me $9.80 at the po.

And they wonder why they are losing money each year. What a ridiculous policy
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

  • Wow. Really helpful info. I wish someone with your expertise was running that rickety operation, mtcards. What a joke!

I think the USPS wants to discourage people from going to the counter.

Yeah, the USPS rates are extremely weird (and messy). But the 16oz maximum for first-class parcels was only changed for commercial pricing customers (Commercial Base Pricing and Commercial Plus Pricing), retail prices are still subject to 13oz maximum. And like you said, the two commercial pricing rates (and regulations) can only be achieved using USPS Click-N-Ship or a third party's shipping utility. If you ever look at the USPS Price List... there's a completely separate section for Retail and Commercial pricing.
