USPS PROPOSES NEW RATES FOR AUGUST 2016

The United States Postal Service proposed to raise rates on First-Class Mail Parcels (FCMP) weighing between 1-3 ounces. If approved, these new rates would go into effect on August 28, 2016.

The proposed new USPS rates are as follows:

1-3 oz. First Class Mail Parcel Retail:

Currently $2.45
Proposed $2.62

1-3 oz. First Class Package Service via eBay labels:

Currently $2.45
Proposed $2.60

This is probably the most commonly used shipping weight range for these two services.

With these proposed rates, it will cost the same to ship a first class package weighing 1 ounce as it will to ship an 8 ounce package. At least it will reduce complexity in the pricing for first class packages. Can't speak for parcels.

I think you meant to type 1-8 oz. in both of those instances.

The weight range that will experience the rate increase is 1-3 ounces. 4-8 ounces already cost $2.60 for first class packages.

You’re going to pay what it cost them handle, weight is immaterial on smaller items.
