BVG Crossovers Please See Scans

Just was wondering if there is success is crossing over vintage cards from BVG to PSA. I have a 57 Starr 7.5 which I would like to send in for a crossover. Thanks for advice. I really would not want to crack out.

I've seen the grades go well and others not so well.

You can always submit for crossover service with a min grade designation. that way if you don't get what you want, no skin off your back accept the sub fees and S&H.

Opinion on what I would get with a crossover to PSA please.

Unless it's the scan, the top right corner looks weak. Also, there is something weird happening to the right edge across from Starr's waist.

In my opinion it wont even cross evenly at PSA, and definitely don't crack it out.

Does it look like PSA 7?

  • keep as is...I see qualifiers OC & MK and the corners are weak (as mentioned above) I was looking at the bottom l&R---my 2 cents

This may actually be a tougher question to answer or generate correct opinions from board members. I think it's on the edge of the curb and could easily reach a 7 on the right day. The surface looks good and that's important. It's a slam dunk 6, obviously......unless there's a hidden defect which PSA will punish you for.

Review it for crossover. Spend the cash and give it a shot. You already own a valuable card no matter what. Why not see if can raise the bar a little higher for yourself?

I would try to cross any high end rookie card from the 50/60s to PSA. It is very little risk and huge rewards. The graders have bad days/good days etc. and make mistakes both ways. Just because a card is NRMT to us doesn't mean it won't be NMMT and vice versa.

I say try it for sure but don't crack and submit.

I left card at a friends house so I will look at tomorrow if there in fact is a blue dot on the edge. Is there a difference between a dot which is a printing error and say a pen mark? Difference as far as PSA grading goes.

  • That's why we say to use NoQualifiers....because it will get a OC and if not a MK (there a black mark on the back..near age23)
Do what the guys here say--send it in when a minimum grade of 7...if PSA deems it lower, they leave it in the slab as-is. This could take multiple times to get one in your favor. I hear folks do it all the time.

I understand what you saying in regards to MK if there are in fact marks, but what do you mean by OC? I thought the centering looks very good.

Does anyone see this card as OC?

Nice looking card but I would say a Psa 6.5 at best.
  • I'd say that cards a 7, the biggest knock to me is the upper right corner if I were you I'd put that under magnification and make the decision. I can't see how anyone would consider this OC as far as a 7 grade is concerned. Submit with no qualifier stipulation and give it a shot. The fact that it's in that holder is gonna get you a lot of 6.5 and easy 6 comments here. Nice card But the fact is any BVG vintage has a negative opinion already attached to it. I think it's possible to find decent deals on occasion in there holders but more so than not I find them more lenient on vintage. I've only ever had one cross before and I took the chance and cracked it.

That's not a pen mark on the border nor would the card warrant any kind of MK designation. There's a similarly colored blue mark above the part in Bart's do. Stray ink, that's all. Not nearly enough to be downgraded or qualified, imo.

BVG, as opposed to BGS, includes cards that were issued during years PSA considers modern (1956 to present) as well as vintage (1955 and earlier). It is not an absolute correlation, but in my general observation over a decent sample size, cards in BVG holders that are 1955 and earlier typically have a much better chance at crossover than those from 1956 to present, like your 1957 example here.

I am sure someone here has probably found a more recent BVG that crossed, but for me, I've had multiple vintage BVG cards cross but never had a modern BVG card that did.
  • Mine was a 57 Aaron but again I took the risk and cracked it.

Wish me luck. I am sending in for crossover with minimum grade of PSA 7 with no qualifiers. I will post my results when I get them. Thanks for all of your help!

Card is NOT OC. I have my doubts that it would cross to a PSA7. Even though your scan is good, it's always better to have card in hand.

Top right corner looks weak, the others look square, but not real sharp. Look on ebay for some similar cards and see if the print imperfections are common to this issue.

I would not crack it out, PSA can be merciless on cards and you could get hammered.

Totally agree that you should send it in for a review, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

    Good luck!

Thanks! I had it in hand and it looks like it should be a 7, but what do I know. I'll keep the board posted.

PSA considers 1956 modern? I did not know that. I thought the general consensus was vintage was pre-1980? 1970?

I only tried a BVG crackout one time. It was about 7 years ago, so this info isn't really even relevant any more but here were my results. Was hoping for a 7. Good luck with the Starr..
(scans are really old and done with different scanners)
