Collecting information

Do dealers generally keep a comprehensive list of where certain coins are (i.e. Which collectors own them) ? If so is it just coins they sold or do they try to keep track of other coins as well ? Do collectors attempt to do this themselves (beyond what is public on the registry)?

Why would they unless they want to buy it next?

Well if someone had an extensive list they could monetize it. Collector A wants x coin. Dealer knows collector B has one. He knows how much collector A would pay. He goes to collector B and offers an amount less. The dealer can make a profit based simply on his knowledge of where the coins are

    Sure, some of us do.

It's more likely that Dealer A knows Dealer B with said coin and either a) buys it wholesale or b) refers Collector A to get a piece of the action (if the coin is valuable enough) ... No I'm not a dealer, just an (educated?) guess image
