With the exception of the two biggest coins not selling it seemed like prices were fairly strong. Any thoughts on the best value purchases in the sale?
If ever you wanted to make a case that BMPs are for real, look at the 1839-C Half Eagle. This coin should not exist. Looks like a more modern proof coin. The quality of the coins out of the Charlotte mint the first few years was nothing to write home about. So this 1839-C has to be some sort of specimen or master coin. At $111k, thought that was a good buy. The 1834 $5 in 66 went for $111k as well. Great bargain, as the other two CHG 66s, the 1837 and 1838 went for $235k, and 65s have traded for about $90k.
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.
