Badly outbid on 4 other lots, but managed to nicely overpay for this one.



I just fell in love with this obverse image of a knight, really striking for an early Frech piece.

FRANCE, Provincial. Crevecœur (seigneurie). Jean I de Namur. 1313-1325. AR Baudekin (23mm, 2.01 g, 8h). Crèvercœur mint. Knight, holding standard with banner, left on caparisoned horse / Cross pattée. Boudeau 2075; Poey d'Avant 6924; Roberts 8414. EF, attractive iridescent toning. Rare.

    That's a great pickup, I completely messed up with the timing of the CNG auction.

    Very nice. French provincials is a field that interests me greatly, but I find hard to delve into due to the lack of English language sources, and my inability to read French.

    Wow! How cool. I agree, I would be more interested in these coins in general if I could read French and therefore the available guidebooks.
