Coin World has an announcement on the net of a 2 Euro coin commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of Monaco under Prince Charles III.
How did the founder get to be III instead of I, you might ask.
Actually, it is the anniversary of Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco.

Interesting matte surfaces, if that is a photo of the actual coin and not a digital mockup.
This seems to be a digital since the same or a similar image is being used a lot on ebay and elsewhere and the piece won't be available for another month or so.
Not my area, but the price seems stunning (said by a guy who has gotten used to paying way too much for current year Vatican annual silver medals) since it seems to be the same composition as a typical euro made for circulation and a mintage of 15k according to a couple of sites. Is Monaco THAT widely collected? Not a biggie to me if folks are paying that, just curious.
prices are high from the start, a Monaco Grace Kelly 2007 - 2 euro issue will do around $2000 nowadays. (issue price a couple of hundred)
All smal(ler) member countries tend to limit their special 2 euro issues (2 editions allowed each year) so they make high prices , this includes the Vatican issues, STLNATS
ugly coinbox and a COA included
Aesthetics aside, I hadn't realized that was such a strong following for these base medal, current issues even as proofs. I do have a couple of the Vatican issues where the topic/design appealed to me, but don't think any were even close to this level. Live and learn.
I would assume there is a rather small limit by law on the issues of these smaller states. Perhaps there are not enough for all the collectors.
Special Issues are not limited, other then 2 different issues each year, Germany puts out an average of 20-30 million coins each special issue. favourite topic old churches,
these coins do about 5 euros in mint state.
I already explained that some (smaller) countries limit their issues to make high prices,
its all about the profit .
Note: The reverse side of all these special issues are the same by law , a map of Europe with a big 2.
In addition to the euro-area Member States, Monaco, San Marino, the Vatican City and Andorra are also entitled to issue limited quantities of their own euro coins through agreements with the EU."
Sounds like everybody has a limit especially the mini-states. At least I just became aware that Andorra now issues euro coins.
As I live in Europe , I'm using Euro coins daily, difficult to keep 'm apart , these shiny ugly discs. I dont collect 'm , only in my bankaccount
local sites overhere offer them in large numbers
