Jordan cards are on fire

1987 up to $6,000
1988 up to $1,000, all star over $1,100
1989 up to $300
1990 all star $200 +++
I know some of these are being manipulated, but are all of them that way. What's going on?

My guess is someone has some Jordan's/Fleer unopened product they want to see increase in value along with some new collectors/investors. Plus we know from some excellent detective work from some on this board there are some people out there are shilling and bidding his rookie and 2nd year card up.

My opinion fwiw is to collect cards and players you enjoy because you enjoy them, and buy them at prices you can afford.

I was very lucky to hit 10s on my 1988 and 1989 Fleer raw submits a few months ago for my basic fleet set. These prices have me considering selling

Back in 1993, an 86F Jordan PSA 10 was selling for around $1500.

I rarely think this - but "that" was a good investment.

I never heard of PSA until around 1995 or 1996 lol.

IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED

A guy I work with gave me a binder full of basketball cards that included some Jordans. They are all from the early 90's. If only he was a few years older.
  • I have an 86F non sticker in 8 that I always said when it hit $2k I would sell. They seem to be regularly hitting that number now so am really getting close to listing it.

You will not get rich but the early Jordan cards skyrocketing will bring up all of his card prices.

I was lucky (?) enough to pick up an 87F PSA9 Jordan on ebay for $350 in late February. Saw this thread, checked recent "sold" auctions and holy crap! WTF is going on?
  • I remember telling someone on the boards to grab an 87 Jordan PSA 9 when they were still around $250 back in around November. They didnt. I bet this wish they did now. Selling in the $700's. Heck even I wish I picked some of those up.

In a sense, I wish I had an "investor's" POV with the hobby and did some selective buying.

Of interest, I picked up this Jordan - I liked the way it looked - a 10 for $177 last year.

    Not a rare card - POP22 with 275 graded.

I'm gonna call it the "Poor Man's Jordan." image

Think there is a lot of Jordan shilling going on. His cards are not rare! Still way over-hyped and is the most over-rated professional ever. Great player but definitely over-rated.

Bought one for $115 in 2010 and then sold it at $120 for a loss on EBAY. Haha Whoops!

I am not a huge Jordan guy but it impossible to over rate him. He is the reason that the Mailman, Barkley, Reggie, and Ewing do not have rings. The only reason why Akeem has 2 is because of Jordan's hobby. You cannot overate easily the greatest athlete of most of our lifetimes. He unquestioned, undisputed G.O.A.T.

I am glad that I picked up my 86F Jordan PSA 9 before they took off. I think his autographs are still a bargain taking everything into consideration. UDA autographed jerseys and basketballs have yet to spike like his early Fleer cards. I purchased an UDA basketball signed by Jordan around 1996 or 97 for $300 and added his signed UDA jersey about a year ago.

  • Speaking of shilling, remember when I was calling out eBayer PSALegends for bidding excessively on pretty much every 87 Jordan card PSA 10. Well just as I predicted, he listed his Jordan 87 PSA 10 for sale through a 3 day bidding auction. He just won one recently so why sell one? Doesn't make sense ...or does it? I am not saying that he doesn't pay for all of them that he's won in the past but I believe that him and about two others brought this card up in value by bidding on each others to raise the price and if they won, all they would have to do is cancel and no recourse to either party and continue doing that for each of there cards. Now that they are selling for $5500+, I say its a safe bet for them to list their cards. This wont be the last one we'll see from this eBay member as well. More to come I am sure.

PSALegends = Shill Bidder now selling his copy

Will all due respect to Jordan, it is certainly not unquestioned, undisputed.

Jim Thorpe was the best overall athlete, but he passed in 1953, before my time and probably before most on this board.

However, I've got Jordan as #3 for modern athlete behind Gretzky and Pele in my book. There are plenty of people around the world who can come up with arguments for putting one of a small handful of modern sports stars above Jordan. It is understandable why many feel he is #1, but it is certainly debatable topic.

You may be right, because I was thinking of the 3 popular US sports, for most of the U.S. Hockey and soccer are not top of mind. I am sure Pele was incredible, I have never watched soccer for more than 2 seconds so I am clueless, Gretzky however is definitely on the list.

Some of the older guys may get this, but maybe the Hunt brothers are getting into the hobby?

As for Jordan v Gretzky, Jordan has 6 titles and Gretzky has 4. Plus Gretzky played with at least 5 HOFers during that run. Jordan only had Pippen and Rodman. Jordan as #1 is debatable, but it is really hard to put Gretzky over Jordan.

One Jordan issue that I considered undervalued for quite a while has skyrocketed along with his Fleer cards. The Bulls Interlake has taken off in the past year. A PSA 9 was selling in the $700 range for quite a while, then around $1000, and now it is selling around $2800.

I understand where you are coming from, but for every person who agrees with this, there is also another who disagrees with it. That is exactly why it is a debatable, disputed topic.
