Most of the coin shows at least around here have fallen into a rut of:

    Same dealers every time.

Same overpriced material that has been cherry picked through for years with nothing worthwhile left.

So in other words a big waste of time.

At the Augusta show there is a prolific currency dealer. John A____. His name escapes me right now. But he has many South Carolina and Georgia obsoletes, confederate, and others. Today and Saturday.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on this one!

With the exception of the annual South Carolina State show a couple of years ago where a long-time collector suddenly showed up and started selling off his holdings, I can't think of a decent piece of paper money I've bought at a local show in at least five years.

True... but if you don't go, you never know which show a dealer will finally break out some new stuff. Murphy's law says it's the time you finally decide to skip the same 'ol show.....

I'm going to the Detroit Area Coin Show if anything just for about 30 mins. Just time to check in with a few regular dealers do a quick scan and then I'm off doing other things for the rest of the day....
Come and see a forgotten piece of history.....

Around here it's the same dealers with the same inventory year after year. Nobody's motivated to sell at reasonable prices if there is anything worth buying. Currency inventory is very low at most tables. Most of them never seem to get new material which is baffling to me. I'm still seeing the same notes from 5 years ago. If I was a dealer and setting up at these shows I'd be hustling and bustling to get new stuff and I would have fresh inventory at every show with prices that weren't on the moon. Back in the 80's it was totally different. I would see fresh material at every show and dealers were a lot more motivated to sell back then. I don't see the point of paying for a table and not selling anything during the show but that's typical these days around here. I guess it's more of a social event for some of them and they really don't need the sales.

Very true - That's why I continue to schlep out to the local shows just on the off chance. However, I always schedule something else to make the trip worthwhile like stopping at Sams Club, etc.
