Are Ike dollars in PCGS Doily holders rare?

First time I've seen one available and was wondering if these are truly difficult to locate (for those who seek out these types of slabs)?

Thanks!

Several showed up on the market a year or two ago. Can't remember how many exactly. I would guess 6 to 10 of them. That said, they are certainly not common.

I got what may have been the first one in the Pacific northwest about 4 years ago. It came from an old collector to a dealer who I work with there . . .and he held it for me. Got it for $50. Soon after, a stash of them turned up with a CA dealer . . . . I knew of 6 more for sure, and heard several had sold before I became aware of them.

So . . . in an absolute sense, surely they are rare. But as for Doily Type, every guy I know who wanted one . . . now has one, so there is no hugely crazy driving force behind pricing.

They certainly were odd coins to certify during the weeks of the Doily slabbing . . . most coins going through at that time were Morgies . . . . .

Thanks for the info, for sure.
I'll pass as the asking price is $200. for a common date in MS65.

Yeah, why in the world would someone slab an Ike back then (or now!)

    I've only seen one, I think it was a 77 in a 5 holder.

At the time, I knew doilys were scarce but I wasn't aware of the demand for them.

This was probably at least 10 years ago.

    I had 6 last year, 2 1972-S, 1 1973-S and 3 1974-S.

All 65-66, 3 of them were gold CAC.

The dollars aren't rare but the holders may be.image

Edit: OK, some of the ultra high grade examples may be considered rare if you are into that sort of thing.

Grade up might be worth that but not a common 65.

I would not mind having an Ike in a Doily.

Yes, but they have to be ensconced in the original holder...no loose ones from being cracked out.

I think it's reasonable to expect that there are only about 20 Ike Dollars in Doiley holders.
