Jerry West rookie

Iconic card. Undervalued also.
Love this card, but when I see cards like this, they usually are PSA 6 or 8 o/c.

What am I missing? Are my eyes oc? My brain oc? Do I need to tilt my head a different way?

WOW! That's kind of stupid. Looks like a classic 9 O/C to me

    Should have a qualifier

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

    "admirable centering"

Yikes. I do think that is within technical tolerance for an 8, but I would want a better centered example (and luckily I do have oneimage). How about 5 basketball related threads on the first page of CU? I think that has to be a record since I joined. I love it!

Actually, the centering doesnt really bother me. Sure if I was the owner of the card or looking to purchase I would prefer better centering, but for me centering is not the be-all end-all. Its really the inconsistency that I see in the grading of cards and the use of qualifiers. I can almost guaranty that if that card is cracked out and re-submitted, it will come back with a qualifier more than 50% of the time. It may be within the technical tolerance for an 8, but its so subjective that its kind of silly. We have seen so many people post their cards wondering why they received a qualifier when the centering was the same as or better than this card. It harkens back to whether there is preferential treatment when it comes to grading because so much of it is subjective. So many 7s could be 8s and so many 8s could be 7s when it comes to pre 1970 cards, but its the difference between thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars in values.

Just looking at it closely, I would say the centering is no worse than 70/30. With all other things being nice, it deserves a straight 8.

I'm sure the bidding will reflect the card.

I've got it in an OC - don't really remember why I bought it?

Maybe it used to be a 10 OC.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Perhaps this card needs a regrade:

I bought this one when PSA was in its infancy - around 1993.

I think it's very close to OC or may be?

Good news - I don't remember paying much for it.

I'm pretty much a stickler for centering but for some reason, I don't have a big problem with the centering on this card. Maybe because it is my favorite basketball player of all time and the fact that I would love to own this card, IDK?

I bought this one back in the early 90s - again when PSA was young.

If I ever find the invoice? I'll know how/why I bought it.

If it was part of a Greg Manning auction? It was picked up at the minimum bid. Would like to know what that was?
