Knight Auction

I see the Knight Auction is up. I am interested in $5 Feds. Where have all the good $5 Feds Gone? For the last year it like pulling teeth to find one at auction. Is it because prices are down and sellers are waiting for a better market? image

There were a lot of nice modern $5s in the past PCDA auction.

They are a very popular denom to collect and get snatched up fast in high grades.

There will probably be more LKCA acutions posted in the coming week or so.

The last auction had two parts with small size notes.

Very true, and true of scarce and rare varieties.

Also, scarce and rare notes are just that (with lots of it existing in single digits only). If people have no need to sell, much of this material will reside in longer term collections. It often takes new discoveries for some of this material to come to market.

We've made a few $5 picks recently that ended up making high grades. Stuff that would have sold for up to a grand at auction for less than $50 each plus grading. That's the best way to do it if you can get that lucky.

Steve42, I understand your frustration in trying to find nice $5 Feds. It may be time to move on and collect something else. Why don't you PM me with what you want to get rid of.

I instantly thought of Star Wars. Sounded like you were using "The Force".

$5's are no good for you ...sell me your notes image
  • Lyn has only posted Sessions 1 and 2. Session 3 has the nationals and it will be posted soon. Keep your pants on, it's not the end of the world!

IF I am looking for $5 SC, $5 Feds and $20 Feds, THEN Lynn can post all the nationals he wants and it won't help.
    Just saying

Scant few 61's - so far anyway. There is only one in the US notes and it brought tears to my cheeks as it is way out of my league, but would love to own it. And I didn't win powerball - oh well.....

Just went through the Nationals - didn't spot anything that screamed "buy me!" However, did find a few items that I will definitely take a flyer on - the opening bids on these items are reasonable so I will make sure they go for at least a few bids over the minimum. I'll be attending the auction so we'll see what happens.....

I see there are Three Sessions to the Lynn Knight auction in Memphis. I thought there would be more sessions but with 18 days to go I guess this is all there is. It seems if you don't collect nationals or world currency you are out of luck!!

I just received my session 1, 2, and 3 catalogs and that is all that is online. So maybe just 3 sessions this year?

The amount of fancy and low serials is incredible. I have never seen so many solid serial numbered notes.

Yep, received mine today. Same as what's online. I haven't checked the Memphis schedule completely so don't know if there are any additional auctions.

You are 100% correct. Never seen so many solids at one time. I'll be "watching", and may attend a session or two while in Memphis.

Edit to add: Doubt I'll be bidding on any -- budget director (aka the spouse) says budget can't afford it.

I guess most collectors in the United States that don't collect World or Nationals collect $1, $2, and $5, and $10. Just for the collectors looking mainly for $5 Feds or Silver Certificates at the Lynn auction. We're Screwed!

I'll be sitting this one out. Nothing for me in there.

I'm tracking a bunch of notes, and there are also some specific notes on the floor that I know will be calling my name! It will be tough, hopefully I can choose wisely! image
  • A few interesting items, but nothing to "blow my brains out" on.
So many notes to collect. So little time to do it.
  • The Lyn Knight Live sessions are online now....and there are 7 new sessions posted....

Hunting the deals is the best part! I recently cherried another contemporary counterfeit $100 train note. The book lists the particular variety as a rarity 9 with 3-4 known! This hobby is awesome image
