1878 VAM help

EzmoneyEzmoney Posts: 149 ✭✭✭✭
Hi I have what appears to be some sort of a VAM 14 variety. It has severe doubling on the obverse of date and stars and very severe "Liberty", even Lady Liberty's neck is doubled. The reverse has the cracked die but what is interesting is that it appears to have a "micro o" where a mint mark would normally be and another one by the arrows. At first I thought these were just toning spots but on closer inspection it appears as though the metal in the ring or o is raised. I even took some negative exposed pics that showed this as well. The coin is toned throughout but none of the other toned spots or O's react the same in the negative exposure. Not sure how to post pics here if someone wants to give me pointer on that

If you start by expanding the details of your description, that would be a help.

Without high resolution pictures here, you're just spinning your wheels.

    Is it the 8TF, 7TF Rev. of '78, 7/8 TF or 7TF Rev. of '79 ?

There are a number of tutorial threads archived here on how to post images in a thread. Get acquainted with how to use a free image hosting website that will allow you to copy and paste image files from one of those URL's into a message text box here. It's just like learning how to ride a bicycle. image

If your coin is the 8TF reverse, I seriously doubt that it is a VAM 14 or one of the 14.xx varieties. PM your email address, and then I will respond so that you will be able to email the images of your coin directly to me if you're so inclined.

Question #1: Is the left base serif of the I from In God We Trust touching the eagle's wing, or is there a visible gap ?

Question #2: Is the coin Prooflike on either side ?

Question #3: Was the coin sourced from an enterprise that had images posted on the web, which could be reviewed and or linked to here ?

Question #4: If answer to #3 is no, but you have high resolution images uploaded on your device (PC, iPhone, iPad) can you just attach them inline to an email and send to me ?
