Thank you USMint for reminding me why I never ship anything UPS

So, I missed my package from the mint today (it has to be signed for) and UPS won't let me change delivery address or time. (Oh, but they all of a sudden can for an additional $8 fee) Or let me just come pick it up. They are going to deliver it again tomorrow at a time no one will be there. And then again on Wednesday presumably at the same stupid time. Until I can then pick it up on Thursday. Customer service is an absolute joke and common sense is completely absent.

If you notify UPS I believe they will hold it for one week at their local location.

So UPS should go out of they're way for you , change their whole business plan?

Every UPS sticker note put on my door says they'll try to deliver again tomorrow, OR I can call the number to make other arrangements.

One phone call takes care of it all.

Don't have that problem if sent to a Postal Box address.

You can arrange to have it drop shipped to a Kinko's or UPS store that may be closer to you than the UPS depot. Been there, done that.

I did contact their customer service. They won't change time or hold it for me. They won't change address to my office. I don't care if they "change their whole business plan" I don't use them and if their business plan includes delivering at times that I'm not their and refusing to change those times then that's dumb. They won't let me change anything until they attempt delivery two more times to an empty house. That's my point. The package is here, I could pick it up tonight but they won't let me. They have to knock on my door for two more days before we can all get on with our lives.

That's absurd!! I've missed a package delivery attempt and called the Customer Service center closest to me to request to pick the item up. They told me no problem, just bring I.D. I would be asking to speak the CS supervisor that you were dealing with.

Yeah. I think so too. But I've calmed down now and I will just wait them out. I only ordered two dimes and I'm not flipping them or having them graded so I guess in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter if I have to wait a couple days.

I'm just trying to understand the situation, you asked for the package to be held and picked up during business hours and were told that was not possible. Is that correct? I would not expect the postal service or any delivery service to make special delivery trips to meet my schedule, however, I would expect that the shipment could be held and picked up in person.

Swing by their place on Lincoln Way and tell the rep that you will be home in 20 minutes and that they should radio the driver and have him redeliver it. You can't pick it up until the driver brings it back after his route is done. That's usually after 7 IIRC.

I have had postal employees deliver packages in their personal vehicle to meet a guarantee delivery time.

    x2.

I have had many UPS shipments, including U.S. Mint products, that I had held at a local UPS distribution center for pick-up. The Mint must have changed policy?

Correct. They won't hold it until three delivery Attempts. So Thursday night I can go get it. I asked twice because it made no sense to me. I'm not asking for anything special here that I haven't done before.

Is this shipping via ups from the mint the service they offer with higher dollar purchases? Since they changed there old shopping methods using fedx to usps, my subscriptions have always showed up much faster and never any issues with leaving in my mailbox. I know these Dimes are not subs, but just wonder if the ups route is optional or normal practice for the mint?

Usually, that 3rd attempt is a return to sender.

I would do what was suggested and that would be to call back and, if the story/resolution doesn't change, ask to speak to a supervisor. Make sure to have the NAME of the person you are currently talking to BEFORE you ask for the supervisor as the phone may, for some strange reason, just lose connection when being transferred.

I much prefer USPS over FedEx/UPS. Any day of the week!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I should have worded that better. The mint ships normal stuff through fedx and then it gets transferred to the local usps for delivery. It use to take anywhere from 1 1/2 wks to 2wks to get your order. Now it's usually within 5 days.

Reason *I* prefer USPS is that, if I am not home, it is much easier for me to pick up from the USPS than the others. The location, the number of people working, the fact that USPS is available on Saturdays and the others are not, etc.....

Also, the USPS isn't slow for me. fedex "smart"post and UPS Ground are notoriously slow image

Good idea. I will try again in the morning and hopefully get a different answer from a different person.

I still think it is amazing that the US Mint uses UPS to deliver rather than the USPS which is a federal government agency.

No problem. Thanks for sharing your life's misery. The UPS shipping policy is quite clear. No idea why you thought to rant on the U.S. coin forum... unless you're the troll.

I missed a delivery, once. I stomped my feet. Nothing seemed to alleviate the stress. After gnawing the bark from a pine tree, I felt better.

I advocate the Mint update their shipping choices even though they are currently 100% better than they were. They should offer these choices:

    1st Class Mail

    Priority Mail

    Priority Mail Express

your choice of FedX or UPS

    NO UPS or FedX ground

absolutely NO UPS Sure Post or FedX Smart Post

You pay for one of the four choices, each with it's own rate.

Make the same choices available for Subscriptions. Stupid Post is the only choice now.

I think it is nerves as Mint delays causing flipper' s issues....... prices Tuesday on Ebay for the raw Merc dime ....down $10 - $15 from Monday

Not sure why the fedx smartpost isn't liked. Since the mint changed to fedx smartpost to deliver to the usps for delivery, my coins have gotten to me twice as fast as it use to with thier old contrators. To keep on topic, I live in a pretty good neighborhood where everyone watches everyone, lol, but I signed a paper with ups to leave my packages by my garage door. Never had a problem with them in the 6 yrs I lived there.

Because Stupid Post can, well documented, take a random weird course in its travels adding unnecessary delays even for locations close to the origin. I experienced an average of 21 days to receive a Stupid Post compared to 4 days for ordinary 1st Class from a far longer distance. Lucky for you to get fast service from Stupid Post, most don't. How would you feel if you had to endure 21 days to receive your mint order?

image I suppose that could cause "anxiety" issues. Mine was a case where the driver was delivering a case of silver. The prices were fluctuating so much , that one day delay cost a few buyers a couple hundred dollars (though they didn't know). The benefit went to me since I hadn't taken delivery , yet. Oh there are many tales that come to mind, reading the boards and how the "flipping" game works. In this "issue" (the mercury dime), I don't think it will be as bad as that recent "Kennedy" fiasco was, and the clamoring which went on for it.
