1971 baseball for the set design -- love the black borders (the photography is no slouch this year, either).
In hockey, 71 OPC is a great looking set.

78s aren't bad, either.
Actually, I like any set from the 70s.

1976 is my favorite because it's the first set I collected as a kid. 1971 and 1975 are a close second but only in high grade due to the colored borders showing any flaw.
Sounds like a lot of people born in 1968-69 in this thread. 1976 was my favorite set as a kid since it was my first year of little league, and the first year I collected along with my brothers. After games we would go to 7-11 about a mile from our LL park and get lots of packs. It was also because my Reds won another World Series, and seemed like every other pack had a Reds All Star player.
I actually had cards from 1973 and 1974, a bunch more from 1975, and 1976 and 1977 we were full bore into cards. Collected 1978-1980, and one we hit teenage years cards went poof! Around 1985 got back into it all the way through college and pretty much never stopped. Can remember as a kid a Brett rookie, Ryan rookie, 1970 Bench hi number 660 as impossible cards to get. Also, remember how big a deal it was to see an Aaron card, 1974 Kaline or Bob Gibson or Killebrew card. Still love those years to this day.

I was born in the tail end of the 70s, so I never got to enjoy collecting 70s in their prime. As I stated before, the 1970 Topps set is my favorite, because that was the only set my uncle collected in his life. When he died unexpectedly, One of the things he left me was his 70 Topps cards. I still possess many of them today - however, I did put up one of my many Munson RC in the PIF thread this past week...but I got a 72 OPC Series 1 pack from Jim for my offerrings, so no complaints here!
