PCGS New Orleans Members' Only Show

I love coin shows. In fact, I get truly childlike the day before a show.

I have never been to a Members Only Show. Next month the show in New Orleans is within driving distance of my Alabama home.

I realize these shows are smaller. How many dealers tend to set up? Do they tend to be worth the effort?

While it depends on luck and what I am hunting, should I be there when the doors first open or does that matter for such a small show?

Any input would be most appreciated!

With all due respect to PCGS, these events should not be called "shows". These are grading events for authorized dealers and collector's club members. The 20-30 dealers that have tables may or may not bring coins to sell and if they do, most do not even put them out. Usually, the dealers come and go as they please, as they are just there to wait for their coins to be graded. This is a very casual atmosphere and not a usual show setting. Hope this helps.

You can call it whatever you want. It is actually a great environment for buying and selling coins. If you want to go to window shop, you are going to be sorely disappointed. It is a chance to talk to talk in a more informal environment with many dealers who are often busy at shows. People complain that at the biggies like the ANA, FUN and Baltimore that dealers have tables full of people and they won't give them the time of day. At these shows there is plenty of time to talk without the pressure of them trying to help someone else. As a dealer who admittedly does not get a table at these shows, I love them. There are guys who I often can't find 5 minutes at a normal show to talk to with whom I can talk for quite a while. For a collector, I am not sure how it will go for you but at least the food will be good.

Between the two responses above you have it covered. I'd say half of the dealers there will have a sparsely filled case of coins and half will have none. I enjoy them regardless.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

Does PCGS have onsite True View service? If so it might be worth a trip. There is a coin in the legend auction I would like to view as well.
