I like the look of that coin - might be the strike, but the level of wear is telling me XF-45, however the surface quality and overall look is telling me AU-50?

Very nice Early Small Eagle Dollar, Congrats
Small eagle reverses are hard to find/purchase IMO and overall has a lot of meat left on the bone.

Ok, I will be the one who goes against the grain...I don't care for the contrast in the high-point wear. There is just something in the Bust series the that color/tone goes to the extreme...it looks like Liberty has a beard.

Fair enough. As a lover of the series, I am probably guilty of accepting or overlooking certain things others may find too distracting.

I might own this coin 10 years ago when it was in a PC 53 holder
Read an article that gave an estimate of up to 70% of bust dollars have been dipped (or otherwise lightly cleaned) at one time and they were talking about those in slabs!
If one can accept that statement then you've got a much rare coin than you may have thought.
In my opinion if you bought that at anywhere near AU 50 money you made a score!
Very nice coin. Those small eagles are SO cool! Is the die rotation real, or just the way you photographed it?
Yes, there is a slight rotation. My quickly zoomed shots made it hard to center the reverse in the native app and didn't have much opportunity to tinker with it at the time.
Love these Small Eagles! But it might be time to start on the Large Eagle dates now. ??
That is one good looking dollar and original surfaces'

Sad, but true. Too many were messed with.
With respect to the mintage, I admit I must have missed the definitive proof on the mintage. At the moment, I use QDB SD Enclyclopedia, Breen & Riever books as reference. QDB estimates 60K. I definitely paid up. I'll post garage info later today.
Thanks all for comments and input. The acquisitions are few and far between these days.
That is a nice looking early dollar!

Thanks! I'll post the grade shortly. I also found the surfaces very appealing along with the strike despite it being a bit off center.
A sincere congratulations.
I'd very much like to get the same date in a Fine 15 or VF20 in the relatively near future.
