Only on really low value lots.
HA auctions have been running late at night. This minimum increase will reduce the number of low value notes and speed things up. I'm ok with that. What do others think?

I would be more surprised if the costs went down.I feel that Heritage may very well do better with a different approach.....rather than push out lower value items(if in fact that is a motivating factor),they should offer another level of service such as something comparable to an eBay fee structure(no minimum fee but rather a final value fee).I feel they will make more money long-term.

    Hmmm, 35.72 % increase.

Maybe if the premium were to be lowered on the low value lots they would move out of inventory and be gone.?? or maybe a separate auction for the low value ones??

  • I think it's a bad idea. It's already expensive enough. This will just drive low value lots to sit even longer. Why would you buy a low end lot when you add on the juice, you could end up spending more than the note is worth. This just might drive some business to competitors.

Just when I was planning on consigning a bunch of modern small size notes and other notes that I upgraded from.

I think the BST is a bit low viability for these types, what else is there beside e-bay?

Perhaps a return to the weekly auction without a live feature for lower priced lots would enable them to lower some fees while speeding things along.

With the $14 minimum, a fair number of lots were selling in the weekly obsolete section for less than the buyers premium, some at only $1. The consignor is really getting a very bad deal with this material. Lot cheap material together for the benefit of the consignor, or $20 notes will sell for $1 plus the $19 buyer premium and the consignor gets 5 cents on the dollar. Ebay makes a lot more sense for consignors of cheap notes.

Sell your notes here for free:

I will be putting at least 150 new notes up there in the next month.

Where did you see this? Current auctions are still $14 minimum.

By my thinking, at $19, nothing that will sell for less than $109 should be consigned without being in a group lot... or having a special deal on consignment.

As mentioned above, the people who consign estates and get $1 or less for something selling for $20 with juice is not getting a good deal. But they obviously do not want that particular business either...

  • I went to bid on something last night and it came up with a message.

IMPORTANT: Please note that for all auctions closing on May 14th, 2016, or later, excluding the categories of Sports and Movie Posters, the minimum Buyer’s Premium is $19. Please direct any inquiries to 214-409-1150 or Bid@HA.com.

There are lots of notes for me where a very large percent of the cost is the premium. Even at $14 it is annoying to bid $6 to buy a $20 note. I would rather bid $170 for 10 $20 notes and pay a single premium of $30 (17.5%) then 10 bids of $6 and $140 premium. Of course - HA wishes they could charge $14 for just thinking about buying a note, but haven't gone that far yet.

If handling low value lots is such a burden, bundle them into bigger dealer lots.
