Considering trading down on my Aaron PSA 8

In the spirit of the upcoming draft, I am considering trading down with my PSA 8 Aaron rookie and trying to obtain the following cards with the funds:

1. 1954 Aaron PSA 7 $6500
2. 1951 Mantle PSA 6 $10000
3. 1948 Leaf Robinson PSA 7 $5000 wrong vcp column $10,000image

4. 1951 Mays PSA 6 $6000
or
4a. 1933 Ruth PSA 6 $5500

The above purchases are under the assumption that I could get in the neighborhood of $27k for the Aaron.

I like the idea of having a high grade Aaron rookie and have enjoyed the recent price wave, but if/when the market corrects, it has the farthest to fall. Going with the multiple cards, i am protected a bit more from any steep drops.

Also, I currently have a '51 Mantle PSA 5 and 1948 Robinson SGC 86, that I would probably end up selling as well to add another $15,0000 maybe to up a couple of the above cards a grade or so.

Just looking for different opinions and the psyche behind those opinions. Thanks, Tom

  • Do it!!!!!! You can probably find a PSA 7 Aaron with nearly as much eye appeal as your 8. (I havent seen your 8, so I could be wrong) Even so, the difference between a 7 and 8 can be very minor and for me, not worth 4 times the money.

I think it's also a sound investment to diversify.

That is a pretty good list Tom. All iconic vintage cards and popular among collectors. You can't go wrong here. Good luck. Tom
  • When it comes to vintage, eye appeal is king, IMO. The cards and grades you're talking about though are some I can't even dream of of owning, so my opinion may mean little.

Great idea! As Wu Tang says "Diversify your bonds..."

If you are looking for a buyer on the PSA 5 51 Bowman, let me know as it is on my short list.
