April thread?

Man, this place is really pathetic lately. Threads that are over 24 hours old still on page one. 5 days into the month and no pickups thread. I guess I'll start one.

A little TTM success today, from an underrated QB and very quick! From northern New England to South Carolina and back in 7 days!

I bought these matchbooks 1-2 years ago and always wanted to get them slabbed. I just got them back yesterday morning. These are three different variations. While I am far from an expert on these items, to me it looks like the Black/Yellow version is MUCH harder to obtain.

Doug, getting those Mantles slab was a great move. Look great!!

ugaskidawg, nice score with the Yaz stamp panel. I just purchased a 69 Bench stamp for my Bench collection but has not arrived yet.

I did have a couple of Bench cards arrive yesterday for my collection. Happy to add my first graded Sportscaster card.

I wish the case was cleaner but very happy to add this card. ETA speck of white is a some debris inside the holder not the card.

Picked this one up today. Not a spectacular card, but I have a question about it.

    image

Who is that inset photo in the top right? It would make sense to me if it was the manager, but it looks like Yaz. Does anybody know how Topps formatted these cards? Was the inset a star, captain, or manager?

That's yaz. You should know what he looks like by nowimage. He must've been absent the day the team photo was taken, Topps used that team photo sans yaz for the card hence adding him as an inset photo. Don't know if thats what you were asking or if it answers your question but hope it helps.

Hey Dan ... below is the first paragraph from a VERY long blog that I found on the Internet.

#567 - Boston Red Sox/Red Sox Team Records

I always thought this team photo was a little off. First we have Yaz floating up there in a bubble like a religious icon and then we get that odd blue background that looks like it may have been added in after the photo was developed. Like the Cubbies, I would have thought Fenway – and the Green Monster specifically – would have made a great backdrop for the team card. But I guess the photographer thought otherwise. My guess is that the team is pretty well represented in the photo but it’s kind of hard to tell since it’s a bit blurry.

Finally got these three customs slabbed that Jeff made thanks to the most recent group sub. The larger Baxter was already subbed in the group sub prior to the most recent one. The backs of each are the same. Sorry for the not-so-good photos, it's late and I don't feel like plugging up my scanner. Really want to get more of these made.

    Great cards guys!

Was really excited to pick this up last week from the fine folks at 707. Had an 8 a few years back that I (regrettably) sold and have been looking to acquire another ever since. Although a grade lower and more expensive than the one I owned before, this one absolutely thrashes that card in every way and might be one of the best looking Koufax rookies I've ever seen.

As you guys know, Jason aka vintageinvestments is selling stuff to defray cost of an education - a worthy endeavor.

I picked up this Mantle to "companion" with an Exhibit Vending Machine Insert:

    Digging the Mantle exhibit.

This was an impulse buy searching for other stuff. Steve had some game used bats listed in the Ebay store and had a couple from Texas Rangers fan favorite Rusty Greer. I went to the University of Montevallo in Alabama and Rusty was the hall monitor for my dorm hall freshman year and lived two doors down from me. He was a great guy and an amazing baseball player for U of M. He should have won the Rookie of the Year award in 1994 but Bob Hamelin got the nod.

I busted countless packs of Leaf Signature Extended trying to pull this card. If I remember right, they were $20 a pack and I almost went through an entire box at a show in the Carolina Mall in Concord, NC. Finally added it to my collection 20 years later!

I bought the Ozzie on ebay. Years ago I submitted the Fred Lynn rookie to SGC, it got an 88 (8). Recently
cracked it out and sent it to PSA. Bam- 9.

Great stuff everyone. I love the Leaf Signatures Maddux. I've always wanted to do the Glavine/Smoltz/Maddux of that issue. It's been a good month of signed RC's for me. A handful more arrived today. I had the same Harper out for a spring training consignment, but it wasn't able to be completed so I just went ahead and snatched one up on eBay. I hit a BIN for the Story the morning of opening day for $4 and it never marked as shipped so I assumed I wouldn't ever receive it and bought another 5x that price that should arrive tomorrow. I can't complain. The Swanson I probably paid 10x more than I could get a signed Bowman a couple months from now as people start to graph him at games, but I really wanted to add him.
