Overton number for an 1813 CBH.

A customer came into our store today with an 1813 Capped Bust Half-Dollar that he bought at a show yesterday. It has heavy clash on the obverse, evidence of "UN" just above the date, heavy shield lines across the face/in the hair and almost an entire wing just in front of "Liberty's" face.



Without a reference at the store I was uncertain if it has an assigned Overton number and what the value might be, cleaned XF details.



Can anyone help??

Could be a 0.101 with the UNI inverted at the 50C.

Heavy die clashes are commonly found on this date, and most of the early 'teens' bust halves for that matter. They do not typically add value to the coin.

There are a couple of harder to find Overtons for 1813, but no rare ones..(accept perhaps the "single leaf" )

Does sound like a 110.

O.110 would be my guess too. Sounds like a very clashed example.



The UN is above the date, not alongside 50c on the reverse. Upside down and reverse face, no doubt, from clashing (UNUM in the scroll).

thank you, Lance, that is the correct number and a nice example at the link. the coin I saw had stronger shield lines on the face and a sharper wing impression, but the lettering above the date wasn't as sharp. also, the coin was entirely devoid of any denticles on either side.
