USPS can't seem to properly estimate items from GreatCollections

So, last couple of weeks, I've had packages coming from Greatcollections.

I can see when they ship it, when it is accepted by the post office, and watch the tracking.

It's always shipped/USPS received on a Monday and first class estimated for delivery on Thursday.

It NEVER updates until Friday night when it says it arrived at "A" local USPS location (not mine....likely one of the main hubs locally) and will try to arrive at my house when I am out on Saturday.

I'm not flipping the pieces. They are for our collection, so a day or two isn't a big deal. I just hate seeing tracking saying it will be here and then it takes TWO extra days and doesn't even update until late Friday (Friday AM and early PM, it will stay say to expect delivery on the day (Thursday) before).

If I catch my mailman to talk with him, I will see if there is at least someone to file a complaint about the issue with tracking.

I do understand that first class isn't guaranteed, it is an estimate, etc etc etc.....but, there really doesn't seem to be a reason that from THAT particular post office up to mine would take a couple of days longer than other items sent from similar area or even other states/cities further away. Their PO isn't small, my local area is pretty big. Not a 1-time thing either....pretty consistently the same timing.

Oh well.....I'll get my coin by Monday afternoon then....

The USPS system is based on their old Delivery Confirmation service.

They changed it to Tracking to compete with USPS and FedEx.
The estimated delivery time is just an estimate.

According to the PO, they really only need to scan it when it is accepted and when it is delivered.

The problem I have with my PO is I have to leave the package on the counter for them to scan it in as received (which happens 85% of the time). If I just put it in the bin then there is only about a 10% chance they will scan it.

They told me it always gets scanned when it reaches the main post office if they miss it at the local PO.

When the carrier scans it when it is delivered it doesn't always get updated until that night or sometimes the next day.

Just wondering if this happens to anyone else getting theirs from GC?

Like I said, definitely NOT GC's fault, as tracking shows it is a USPS problem....but I'm wondering if it is the Anaheim PO or whatever truck/route is used to go 2 states north.....

    Message on the tracking website:

The package is delayed and will not be delivered by the expected delivery date. An updated delivery date will be provided when available. Your item arrived at our XXXX, XX ##### destination facility on April 1, 2016 at 9:42 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

My GC orders always ship very quickly (Mondays) and also show Thursday for an estimated delivery date (1st Class). There are occasional instances when the coins arrive on Wednesday (very fast as I'm 2000 miles from GC) and usually it is Thursday as estimated. During busy times around the holidays it can be Friday for delivery but never later that unless there was a weekday holiday holding things up.

If you are consistently waiting a week for delivery within the lower 48 then by all means take it up with USPS. It might not help but at least you let them know.

  • My items always ship fast, it's the pictures on GC that take forever to load...sometimes I lose interest while waiting...anybody else have that issue?

Aren't they in the Pacific Northwest?

Bought something cheap but bulky on eBay. Mailed March 18 in Bellingham, WA. Received at Federal Way, WA on March 19. Did not leave Federal Way until March 30!

Received at Denver just before Midnight last night, so I won't get it until Monday.

We're in Irvine, California - I believe the same postal routing as PCGS/CU would have (since we're located very close to them).

I have seen mail be held up an extra day or two in Anaheim - but it's rare (perhaps 2-3 times a year). Even for the Priority and Express, the estimate by USPS as to a delivery date is usually wrong. It can be wrong both ways.

We use the post office because it's safer and cheaper. That being said, we're considering adding Fedex options for clients who wish to know with more accuracy when a shipment will arrive.
