Proliferation of Vintage Reprints

Has anyone noticed a big jump in vintage reprints in the vintage category? Also, does anyone fear in the future that the reprint business could drive business down as they perfect their craft with new technology and even better reprint quality/accuracy?

Even if astute collectors can notice the difference perhaps those less so might think the quality of these repro's could threaten the overall faith in the authenticity of the real ones and therefore vintage cards would be a risky investment, etc.

One would think,if for no other reason, a scenario such as you describe should be a boon to the TPG's. As people may require these expert opinions/guarantees of authenticity more often. So this negative problem could be a positive byproduct for the TPG's.

  • Or perhaps an alternate perspective would be that a flood of garbage hitting the grading room will slow down the process even more for those who actually send in legit stuff.
