New book on the history of coin albums.

I know this is a little off topic, but I wanted to share that David Lange just released his second volume on vintage coin albums. I have his first book on the topic and as a long time collector of coinboards, it has been one of my favorite numismatic reads.

Following the evolution of coin boards and later coin albums is a history lesson on the hobby and ultimately the industry as we know it today. While the first volume studied the National Coin Album and all of its associated products, this second volume focuses on the brands "Library of Coins" and "Treasury of Coins" which were issued from 1959 to 1971. The Library of Coins albums were a favorite for advanced coin collectors and are still sought after today due to their outstanding construction. The Treasury of Coins are a lesser known and rarely seen series of albums aimed primarily at beginners. The book is a deluxe, hardcover reference similar in quality to his first volume and I highly recommend it.

If anyone is interested in more information, send me a PM.

Sounds like a good read. I've been stocking away nice Library of coins albums for a few years now and always try to buy the vintage coin boards when I see them.
They're a cool niche in the coin collecting hobby.

David Lange's fascination with vintage coin albums and boards is contagious. Moreover, collecting or just studying these is a neat way to enjoy the subject of collecting classic U.S. coins without having to buy any expensive coins. Learning about the albums also contributes to an understanding of some common types of natural toning.

After I first saw the bust quarters in the Eric Newman Collection, I contacted Lange for his input regarding the storage and colorful toning on many of them. I noted his research into the archives of The Beistle Company and I quoted Lange at length.

Dave's first volume on coin albums has some great info on the Beistle albums as well as images. Again, a great reference book.
