I usually pride myself in being able to find historical facts when it comes to tickets I collect. However, I bought this one on E-Bay a few months ago as a 1937 NFL game between the Pittsburgh Pirates (Steelers) & New York Giants. When I started researching the ticket I noticed the Giants didn't play Pittsburgh in New York on the date of the ticket,(they played in Pittsburgh), also the Giants played their games at the Polo Grounds at this time not Yankee Stadium.
I then researched the Yankees, but they played the Red Sox in Boston that day. I have also researched the old American Football League, and the schedule I saw had them playing on Wednesday of that week not Sunday the 26th.
I have tried looking for college games played that day, but can't find anything. Also researched Negro League games and did find where the Kansas City Monarchs may have played at Yankee Stadium on that date but nothing confirmed.
So, If anyone has any idea about who may have played @Yankee Stadium on September 26, 1937, I would love to hear it ! Thanks !

I tried it, but only came up with a few searches that were non sports related. I wonder if there is somewhere you can search the entire paper for that date. I bet you have to be a subscriber if there is.
I found it here. link
EDIT: It was a double-header, actually.
Paige and the other players returning from the Dominican Republic faced a Negro league ban for jumping their teams. In response, they formed a barnstorming team called "Trujillo's All-Stars", which was later known as the "Satchel Paige All-Stars." Wilkinson evaded the ban by having promoter Ray Dean schedule games between the All-Stars and the House of David. In August, the All-Stars won the Denver Post tournament. In late September, Paige faced a team of Negro league all-stars at the Polo Grounds. Despite striking out eight and allowing only two runs, he lost when the opposing pitcher, Johnny "Schoolboy" Taylor, tossed a no-hitter. A week later a rematch was held at Yankee Stadium, and this time Paige beat Taylor handily.[65]
