Update on new set started.

Well, I decided to start the First Ballot HOF Postwar Rookie Players set. Here are some of the results for my first cards to get me started. I know it will never be the highest rated set, but the goal is to complete it.

The high grades are for people that have deep pockets...which I would venture to say not too many of us do. I personally like PSA 4-6, because the cards actually look as if they were held and experienced by their previous owners. Don't get me wrong, I would gladly take a 10, but I like the look of mid collector grades.

TBH, it is all about the journey and not about all the fancy cars and hotels you stay in along the way.

That Ozzie is amazing. I bought 2 '79 Topps vending cases in 1983.
the best Ozzie was 90/10 centering. Built 15 sets, kept 2 and sold the
others. It took me 10+ plus years and over 100 shows before I found
replacements for the 2 Ozzies. Fun times.

Just an update on my First Ballot HOF Postwar Rookie Players set. Mostly more recent inductees. I self submitted the Griffey and will have to look for an upgrade to a 10 since there are a more than a few available. The Eckersley will eventually get upgarded to an 8 or 8.5.

    Wow James!

That's an incredible start with some superb cards! It would've taken me years to get as far as you have.

How many cards are in this category? Didn't even know there was such a category.

    Job well done buddy.

  • That is a great idea for a set, funny thing about the first ballot part is all the legends that's don't make the cut!! Think about it there are some greats that just don't fit, Berra, The Killer, Joe D (man the criteria has changed huh!) Anyway you have some great pieces of history there wish you all the luck in the world with finishing it.
  • Just noticed the postwar part, still some head scratchers missing though.

Great stuff, James! The Topps RCs of Gwynn and Winfield are on my hobby to do list.

Donato, thanks for posting the link; I was going to do it first thing this morning.
TheMick6, I completely agree with some of the true greats who didn't make it on their first ballot. Some of them are just mind boggling.
Dan, Winfield was one of the HOFers, I didn't realize made it on his first try. I thought he was another Niekro or Sutton.

If anyone has the Griffey in PSA 10, and is interested in moving it, please let me know.

Two more down. The Yaz doesn't have the best centering (will find one in the future), but I got it for a great price. The Brock is an upgrade from a BVG 5 I had.

Three more down, picked up the Spahn for grading, and hopefully the Banks will be joining me next week.
