Anheuser-Busch cowboy hat with NASCAR drivers signatures

My grandparents traveled around for years following NASCAR races. At the moment I do not know the years that they did this but I believe it was in the 90's. My grandma had this cowboy hat that she took with them to all the races. Over the years she managed to get various drivers signatures on it. The other day I received it in the mail from her. It is in what I would call great condition. Being a new comer to this kinda thing who knows. It has 37 signatures on it. Not being a regular follower of NASCAR, part time I'd call it, I have not identified all of the signatures. I know 23 of them so far... Dale Jarrett, Ned Jarrett, Terry Labonte, Darrel Waltrip, Michael Waltrip, Matt Kenseth, Richard Petty, Kyle Petty, Dale Earnhart, J.D. McDuffie, Brett Bodine, Geoff Bodine, Davey Allison, Bobby Allison, Ricky Rudd, Alan Kulwicki, Jimmy Spencer, Ken Schrader, Dick Trickle, Rusty Wallace, Junior Johnson, Harry Gant, A.J. Foyt... I'm working on the rest. My grandmother is still alive. My mom is visiting her right now and I've asked her to get grandma to write down everything she can about the hat and getting the signatures. Grandma also has a picture of her and Richard Petty and she's wearing the hat. So I'm just wondering about taking care of the hat and secondly value. I've heard that the signatures need to be verified by a place that certifies this type of thing. Any help would be great.

Post a lot of pictures of the sigs here and they would get identified in a few hours I'd bet. Nice pickup!

I wouldn't worry too much about getting the signatures verified on a piece that has the provenance this one does IMO. You are doing the right thing by getting your grandmother to write out her memories of getting the signatures and with the picture of her wearing the hat next to the King you've got all of the authentication future generations in your family will need. The important thing is to store it or display it in a way that will help it last. My Dad had a valuable (memory wise) hat from back in the day but it ruined sitting in his closet over the years.

  • Thank you ga5150. That's a good suggestion. I am gonna make one more stab at the signatures and then I'll get some photos taken and post them. Stay tuned. image
