Certified High End on a PSA-10??

we all know that Brent has down very well on the cards that have been designated as Certified High End since he started the concept last year. Many of the cards that he certified as high end sold for up to twice as much as VCP. Good for PWCC and the consignors.

But is it a stretch to certify PSA-10 cards as high end? I assumed that everyone who bought the high end designated cards did so to try and bump them. But not a possibility on a card already slabbed a 10. I know that not all 10s are graded equally--but designating it a certified high end?

Will it work? Of course it will !! It will be interesting to see how much more someone pays for the '86 Jordan sticker PSA-10--certified high end.

Props to Brent. And why haven't the other AHs started doing the same thing for their consignors?

I would simply add that there are SOME cards that are sold for a higher price than a PSA 10, namely those in a BGS 10 Pristine holder. The 1986 Fleer Jordan RC comes to mind. A potential customer may be looking at a certified high end PSA 10 as a candidate for a BGS 10 cross-over.

Of course, there is always the potential that a collector will pay the premium for the card in its current holder, as we know all 10's are not the same.

Nah. No problem with watching the cream rise to the very top. We could refer to them as Charlize Theronious Monster cards.

    Or Spinal Tap virtual 11's.

Still waiting on the PWCC Certified High End PSA 1 for something rare and interesting.

Or maybe I missed it. And it wasn't that interesting. image

Maybe, maybe not. I bought mine because it looked beautiful.

I understand not all cards are created equal but come on, a "high end" high end card. A PSA 10 should already be considered high end by default. Just my opinion.

The 10 may be the highest possible grade, but not all 10s have the same eye appeal.

To me it's not a question of whether exceptional cards for a given grade exist. They do. The point is more that those of us with functioning eyes can see for ourselves what is and isn't a good example of the grade. It may however be a useful service for the visually impaired buyer.

That is indeed a high end card. It wouldn't look out of place in a PSA 8 holder.

The same could be said for graded cards in general, too.

To a degree. I'm not confident in my ability to detect trimming and recoloration. Also, without being able to examine a card in hand, a high PSA grade at least assures me that the corners are likely to be free of wear which is often hard to detect from scans.

But a lot of the appeal for the PSA grade is not just for the buyer, but other buyers if he chooses to re-sell. I guess the same could be said here.
