Who is grote15??

I hear a lot of people on the forum refer to Mr Grote as the leading expert of vintage unopened packs.... I was just curious who the man is behind the name and why is he an 'expert'??? Do tell.....

I'm just a long-time collector of unopened baseball from 1970-1982, primarily, and enjoy sharing my knowledge and info about this great hobby of ours here on the forums. I don't refer myself as an "expert," but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night..

I can vouch that he did sleep in a Holiday Inn last night. To be clear though, it was a Holiday Inn Express. As most will attest to, he is the resident expert on unopened wax.

Tim is the unopened legend of the boards. His reputation is second to none and has forgotten more about unopened than most here will ever know. His posts are thought out, educated, and they exude class. CU is lucky to have him, especially nowadays where it is slower around here.

    Thanks for that comment Gemyanks10.
I was just chatting a bit with Tim.... he is a class act and most definitely a huge asset to the boards. I look forward to 'picking' his brain for unopened questions in the future.

He actually knows a lot about 'opened' also.
1975 topps baseball is by far my favorite year,
and I've gotten lots of info about the cards from him,
such as on a certain color combo, the name placement is often times
low, making the card seem off-centered when actually it may not be.
He's certainly an expert on 1975 cards as well as unopened.

No problem...I've dealt with him quite a bit and he's good people...I would expand the unopened knowledge to all 70's - early 80's actual sets too. Topps, O-Pee-Chee etc. He has taught me a lot, but keep in mind when I came back into the hobby in 2012, after a 12 year absence, and joined the boards, I had a lot of questions to ask...I always preferred the older stuff, so it worked out...

We might as well all roast Tim in this thread lol image

+1 for Tim. Best on here for unopened from the 70's and only person I buy packs from that are ungraded. Only negate I can say about him is my budget gets crushed several times a year when he posts items for sale image

As already stated, Tim is an all around good guy. And yes, he is definitely one of the go-to guys on the board for unopened knowledge. Based on what I've read on here, he also appears to be good at fantasy sports as well.
