FadeToBlack you inspired this cherrypick! Thanks
A few months ago FadeToBlack posted a doubled die reverse that was saved from the scrap silver pile. I had never heard or seen this very strong Class I doubled die reverse before, and thus began the searching. That search was realized this past week on an eBay auction. I received the coin last night, and it's definitely an amazing doubled die. Well worth the months of looking. Thanks!

That is a great pick, congrats! I occasionally search eBay for this coin and the 1946 DDR, that coin shows up all the time in grades up to VF but the 1942 is much more elusive. Any plans to submit it for grading at our host?

Definite plans to submit for grading by our host, though I'm still in the "gathering" phase before I submit. Getting close to being ready.
Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
I see that as a MS64 if it will straight grade. Small rim bruise at 9:00 and possible hairlines vs. die lines, both on the obverse.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
HAPPY COLLECTING
If this place leads one person on a search, it's successful. I've been on several wild goose chases since joining.

I am sure I have no idea what you are talking about.

"Easier" in relative terms-it's definitely not easy!
Knowledge + persistence = good things comin' your way!
Nice find. I have a somewhat different experience with this variety-I think it's easier to find than the 1946, but that's just been my experience.

Maybe I have a little bias becauase I've always found the 1946 DDR easier to identify in auction photos than the 1942 DDR.
Over the course of several years I picked a dozem of more of the 1946 off eBay, in grades from VG up to MS63. I don't have the time to hunt like I used to, but just a few weeks ago I looked at 1946 halves and found two unattributed in auctions, a VG and an XF (I lost both, so I'm obviously not the only guy looking for them). (Here's a link to the low grade coin if you're curious)

EDIT to add: I may have to take back what I said about people looking for them - here's the second one, I forgot to set my snipe and it went for peanuts.
