At last! PELE ROOKIE SET!

After about a year waiting, its on-line. I think this is an interesting set even for non-soccer collectors, since the rookie cards of the greatest of all times are important cards through out the whole hobby. Pele does not have one and only rookie, and the cards issued during 1958 are widely accepted as "rookies".

Right now it feels kind of lonely there, but I am sure that, sooner than later, more will jump in.
You can find it here.

    Super nice set

I bet the cards are not easy to get and when you find them not in primo condition.

    Thanks for posting pics.

He was beyond a great player and placed soccer/football on the map.

Very impressive, my friend - nice work! Some of those cards look very solid for the grades as well!

  • Terrific stuff, and cheers to these cards being fundamental to the hobby as a whole. What a set!

  • Echo the people here. Simply amazing, and something you don't see...well ever! The rarity of most of these makes it one of the best sets I've seen. Well done!

amazing set. Great work. My favorite are the Titulares cards. I wish PSA would remove the "handcut" qualifier. I'm pretty sure these are not hand cut.. but can't prove it. What are your thoughts on this card? I don't own it but was wondering if you thought it should be added to the set.

    1958-59 Balas Idolos
This is another card issued in Brazil. It is small and on thin stock similar to the Titulares. I have only seen 1 ever sell on eBay. The set sold for 950. Also beware of this card with a blank back. The blank backs are fakes.

I believe that there is a rule with rookie sets where you are not allowed to modify the composition once it has been added to the registry. The rule does not make any logical sense, since you can add items to the other types of registry sets.

Also, I hadn't looked into it before, but is there some reason they don't include team cards on rookie registry composition sets?

Nice work Ionannis. I'm conceding on the #1 spot for the Pele master set, as I just don't see myself pursuing the newly required 530 or more items for the Instantaneos and the Glorias sets. Good luck with those. I will be content to drop down and hold the #2.

  • Thank you guys, you are all so kind. Indeed, some of those cards are really, really rare. It took me years to find some of them.

@Eagles33: This is a really nice card. Quite honestly I don't know much about it and I haven't researched about the true year of issue. It would be interesting to see if it was issued before the Titulares (which would surprise me) or the Quigol.

@miwlvr: The rule is true, but in cases like this - where there are still chances to discover a yet undiscovered "rookie" card - I think the Registry team would be willing to make an exception if provided with enough evidence. About the team cards, I think that this is the general rule about rookie sets with PSA. And about the Master Set: I had some luck acquiring some nice Instantaneos and Glorias cards, but completing the sets will be a whole another story. You probably know better than me how tough it is to find these in decent condition, so it should take some years at least... :-)
