Lock me in a round room with padded walls ...I bought a Bond!!!

I hear people do it all the time, but not me. Well, if I keep finding examples that look as cool as this one, I might get hooked!

I saw this on HA last night and fell in love image

Payable in British Gold Sterling and issued to raise money after the Civil War.

Tookybandit, that's okay, just take a deep breath and image

In my collection I have a few bonds, Canadian and Mississippi. Nothing denominated in Pound Sterling and now I may have to go look for one. LOL

That bond caught my eye, too, but I decided not to bid, just because I collect too many different things already.

What I found interesting about this one is that it's a Civil War bond issued in the North after the War to raise money in Europe.

The vast majority of Civil War bonds were issued in the South during the War to pay for the War and were never repaid.

The America and St George vignettes are great, too.

I collect railroad bonds, and in their pursuit, I run across others that I like. I recently got this after seeing it in an auction. Waterlow & Sons printed, the green border blends into the black of the vignette engraving to produce a scene evocative of a Tokyo between old and new worlds.

Bonds like this are from what I consider the golden age of bank notes, and just as beautiful to me as notes costing 100's time more than so many rail road bonds form this era.

Stocks/Bond vignettes many times are better than those found on banknotes - more room.

My favorite of my favorite bridge. Unique and came with a cubic foot of archives from the railroad company.

Your bond is beautiful, Tooky! I'm a big fan of these myself. There are so many varieties and the large formats offer a much bigger canvas for the engraver's art. Here are a few favorites from my collection.
