What to do with 1987 Baseball Commons

I have a bunch of 1986,1987,1988 commons sitting around. What is the best way to get rid of them?

If the best idea is to donate them, what charity would be the best?

They would probably be good kindling for a campfire but I'm looking to help somebody get some enjoyment out of them...

Thanks for the suggestions.

  • Honestly I chucked many of mine. Goodwill or Salvation Army will take them and sell them in thrift shops.

    Give to a charity...$0.05 a card x 5,000 count box = $250 itemized deduction

  • +2 on what Bishop said.

If you don't need it, you are not going to use and it's just taking up space give it away to a good cause.

Use them as wallpaper in your basement. You get 80s nostalgia from the cards as well as the wood paneling in your basement.

If I was a kid today, I would not be very excited at all to be getting 1987 topps baseball cards. free or not. haha. I wouldn't know any of the players...none of them are actively playing anymore...and I would know that they are worthless.

Just my opinion, but donating several thousand 1987 topps would be like saying "hey, I want the tax deduction....so you throw these away for me"

In the past I've opened a few cases of 1991 and 1992 upper deck. Yielded tons of commons with the same worth as the ones you are talking about. I just put them on craigslist and a facebook "beg, barter, trade" page for free if someone came to pick them up. They were all gone (about 35,000 cards) in less than an hour.

I have the same dilemma and have contemplated this before, but never have proceeded. I'd like to move around 400k of 86-99 commons and minor stars.

    Thanks,

I think you would probably find a few buyers on Ebay at 30 or 40 bucks per monster box and you could just tape up the boxes, no special packaging. Might only net $5-$10 after shipping but its an alternative.

Always looking for 1993-1999 Baseball Finest Refractors and1994 Football Finest Refractors.

When I was 10 someone gave me a box of beat to snot 1974-75 opc hockey cards. I had heard of very few of the players but I was ecstatic - still have them today.

Holy cow - that would be interesting to do in a game room. throw in some stars too. It'd be a cool sight!
  • Keep them and hand down to next generations. Maybe in 50 yrs someone can get more value out of them.

Donate to a charity........you get tax deduction (for more than what they would ever sell for) and the charity gets an item they can sell/distribute
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • If you donate an item and take a deduction for more than what it would sell for, then you are taking an improper deduction.

If you donate something that is worthless, you aren't entitled to deduct anything for it.

Why do I get the feeling they are not as generous with the pricing when they are buying.
