PCGS colorful Ike dollar and advice needed. New images

I am pretty sure this coin is a silver proof and not a clad proof. If I send it back to PCGS for a mechanical error could PCGS body bag the coin for questionable toning and say the whole label was a mistake?
A friend submitted the coin for me and he submitted it as a silver proof.

Are you sure that it is Silver? Doubtful that it would get body bagged (I don't think they do that anymore) since it straight graded previously, worse case scenario, it would be labeled questionable color, then a refund for the previous grade would come into play.

Interestingly, I would imagine it might be worth more as a clad proof with this look than as a silver proof.

Yes I agree with you Tom. I just want the label to be correct.

Is the difference in weight big enough to determine this without removing the coin from slab?

Did this Ike happen to come from edynamicmarketing on Ebay?

    Good idea OriginalDan

I do have an MS65 clad Ike in a PCGS holder (older blue label holder).

Toned Ike PCGS slab + coin = 51.20 grams
Clad MS65 Ike PCGS slab + coin = 51.00 grams

Redbook has silver Ike weight at 24.59 grams
Redbook has clad Ike weight at 22.68 grams

    No I didn't.
I bought this coin raw about 9 years ago. I never got up the nerve to certify it until a few weeks ago.

I've seen his offerings and they're no where near as attractive as the Ike in the OP.

    Here's an example:

That 78S PCGS genuine only is a no brainer "AT".
This 74S is looking good to me. I saw a few Ike dollars in early 90s which all were nearly identical to this 74S. There were all placed in a small brown envelop at the time.

your weights tell me it is a nickel clad

I would expect it to be closer to 2 grams heavier than your other clad if it was silver

If you submitted yours for review I guess it is possible it could be bought back, but with a toned coin I think it would be really hard to set the price.

This silver Ike is on eBay for $625 and doesn't look as nice as yours.

SPECTACULAR coin fivecents. With the toning I agree with you that the coin is most likely silver. Perhaps you submit the coin for reconsideration instead of regrade. I am not sure if clad vs. silver would be considered a reconsideration, but color is as an example. I suggest you explain the issue with PCGS customer service. I have found them to be very helpful.

Very, very, very unlikely. Clads can tone that way. It certainly looks like clad toning as opposed to the way the silver versions tone.

Any coin can be downgraded or body bagged during a reconsideration, regrade, restoration or even when fixing a mechanical error. PCGS has an obligation to correct its mistakes.

A guarantee payout would accompany it.

I agree with geogiacop50. It is extremely unlikely.

Yes, very unlikely but clads can tone this way. If you ever saw OPH Ike dollars, you could see similar toning pattern except OPH coins are with purple color near rim and orange color in center.

That coin is spectacular. Without having it in hand, it looks like a QA Check Gold Sticker....we have done 17 gold sticker coins out of a total of 17,000 coins graded.

    Weight will be the key.

PCGS will NOT body bag that coin.

    Good luck with it...

I can relate with it being unnerving and suspect many others can also relate to that statement.

So it is a Clad not a Silver Ike...at least that I show I read this.

Probably a better deal than being silver...this time.

I didn't know they still use the full gadget ring. I thought they eliminated them totally. I wish they would bring them back myself. I would think this holder is more than a few weeks old. Maybe being able to see the rim would answer your question though.

I don't follow the series but aren't there some diagnostics on the coins that would verify one or the other? I'd just leave it alone.

    Monster Ike!

I'd call PCGS for more info.

Clads can tone this way, though.

James Sego verified it was silver and not clad. James submitted it to PCGS at a show and now the label reads silver instead of clad. Same grade and still marked Cameo. :0
    Thanks James and PCGS.
