Better Call Saul

Season premier for "Better Call Saul" was on AMC last night. For those who might not know Better Call Saul is a spinoff of the immensely popular show "Breaking Bad". A dramatic crime show.

In the episode last night a character called the police to report that his home was burglarized and that his baseball cards were stolen. He had his living room done up as a display room. There was discussion of specific cards including 52 Topps Mantle and the 60/40 centering front and 90/10 back on a Hank Aaron. That little bit was about as much concerning the present state of what it is to be a card collector as I have heard on TV.

Also the guy exclaims to police that his Will Mays "O Peachy!" is gone. Sounded off, but then I got to thinking what is the right way to say O-Pee-Chee? I say something along the lines of O Pu Chee. But it pretty much is O Peachy except you want to pause between the Pea and -chy.

Fun moment. Even though the character is a complete loser and is on the short list to be murdered.

Maybe one of the writers collects.

I'm a huge fan of the show and I watched it last night too.

As for that scene, I can't figure out why the guy called the cops. He obviously couldn't tell them about the stolen money. What is this guy think, if the cops find out who took his cards, he can strong arm the money back from them too?

He pronounced O Pee Chee like I and everyone else I've ever heard in my life pronounce it. How the heck did you come up with 'O Pu Chee'?

    Charleston accent

    Just sayin'

Slightest difference between peachy and Pee Chee.

There is a river near here called the Pee Dee which if you don't slow down would sound like "Petey".

I think they were using the baseball cards as way to highlight his naivety about the world he had entered. I think he was not thinking beyond my most prized possessions are stolen.

I suspect he'll be found asphyxiated in a lagoon of 88 Donruss.

If you'll recall, Sailor Ripley did time in Pee Dee for killing Bob Ray Lemon.

I say "oh-peachy" and have heard many call it "oh P C" and some call it "oh P SHE"

I took seven years of French and don't think the "h" is silent in "chee" but if it is then I can see why some would pronounce it, correctly or incorrectly, "oh P C"

Tom from OPCBaseball probably knows more about this than anyone since he seems to take frequent trips up north.

So he got the cards back. Apparently though being completely anal retentive he stored his Mantles and Aarons loose in a 3500 count monster box.

there were definitely some 88 donruss in there.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised to see the monster boxes too. I figured if the writing staff knew about Mantle, Aaron and Willie Mays O Pee Chee, they would know that those cards would most likely be stored in individual holders. And the dude even said they were on display in his living room, apart from all the others. MAJOR hole in the story here! I don't think I can watch any more.

Maybe he was talking about the Kmart turn back the clock mantles. Thoes were not vintage cards in that episode.
