1979 Topps Hockey question

I havent sent in many of these to be graded and was wondering how much the back centering on these plays a factor in grading? Obviously the Gretzky Rookie will be scrutinized but how does it effect commons? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks

I've sent so many of these on over the years. From my experience it really depends on the grader. At one time I tried sending consistent centering lots in each sub. My rationale was for the grader to have a stack of cards with the same back centering, this way they wouldn't have another to compare it to. I did have better results doing this.

I think the major areas they look for (other than normal wear) are print defects and chipping along the edges. As long as you have some decent looking cards without chipping or print defects, you should be fine.

I actually think PSA scrutinizes ALL of the cards in this set.

Best of luck and please share your results when you're finished. I really miss collecting that set.

I have sent in a few here and there over the years. I sent in a , what I thought was a lock PSA 9, Bobby Hull and it got an 8
which rendered it worthless I have a few team cards and a couple HOFers I want to sub but seems like a big chance as they are tough on them. To answer your question about back centering. I am not sure but the front design makes it tough. I am not sure when Topps designed it they intended to have 4 even boarders? To me I think it was intended to have 3 and the right border to be smaller? Of course I think they look better with 4 even but that's me.
