P Manning SP PSA 10 on ebay - no serial # on back mis-labeled? Bad card?

Probstein is auctioning a PSA 10 1998 SP Authentic Peyton Manning "rookie" that does not have a serial # on the back of the card. 1998 SP rookies are supposed to be factory stamped out of 2000. Some times you'll see the serial # hand written in gold on the card if it was a replacement card. The card in question doesn't have either. What's up with that? Should it have even been graded by PSA? Or if it was able to be graded should it be at a minimum labeled by PSA that it does not have the serial #.
My fear is this is a card that was originally meant to be a replacement card that was not needed and found its way out the "back door" and now has been graded. There are only supposed to be 2000 of these - that's what the serial # is for. Ebay item # is 371547546624.
I think it should be sent back to PSA for either re-labeling to properly reflect no serial # or it taken out of a PSA holder if truly a "replacement" card. What do you folks think about this situation/card?

You could also send in your damaged card to UD and they would replace it with a hand numbered version of your actual number. So they had extras that weren't numbered until a replacement was sent in.
Anybody who knows UD knows those non numbered ones ran out the back door at some point. It disgusts me but that is how they have rolled since 1989.
In the future, we do ask that you please notify PSA directly by calling Customer Service at 800-325-1121 if you believe there has been an error with a card. Allowing an auction to keep running when you have information that may be helpful, doesn't help PSA, the seller, or the potential buyer.
If the goal is to be helpful by posting, we appreciate that, but the first step should always be to reach out to PSA directly (not via the forums) as soon as possible.
That said, the listing was ended earlier this morning and we will be receiving the card for further examination and/or action.
Typically I delete such postings, but this thread does have some valuable information as it pertains to the card in question, so it will remain up this time.

Honestly I would like to see PSA in the future put the serial number on the card. Any idea why they have never done this? Wouldn't it benefit PSA , the seller and the buyer?
I'm not sure how PSA would know what number to put on the card (assuming you mean the serial number UD placed on the 2000 cards). Even if PSA knew, I would see that as the card becoming damaged by writing or stamping outside of the factory.
