So, you're wanting to know how other collectors' 86 Fleer subs went so that will give you an idea of how yours will go? Can you please explain?

Pretty self-explanatory. I am sure he wants to know how the subs of fellow 1986 BB collectors are faring. Good question to ask! While I don't have an '86 sub to go out, I'd be interested in knowing how results have been lately.

How results have been lately? LATELY? Why would current subs be graded any differently then earlier subs? Cards that fall within the guidelines of MINT 9 get a 9. Cards that fall within the guidelines of NMMT 8 get an 8. Why would when they're subbed or from whom they were subbed make any difference?

I think partly it doesn't matter how many are coming through the PSA offices, as BillWalton said, a 9 will get a 9, 8 an 8, and so on. I do think that if there is a huge influx of specific cards that hit the grading desks at PSA all at the same time, they start to scrutinize a little more. A card that would grade as a 9, might get an 8 if too many 9s are sitting there. They have more to compare in the moment. On the flip side, if there hasn't been any 9s and 10s for awhile, they might be a bit more lenient with the grading. I think this why the old adage is given, buy the card and not the grade.

Jeez, talk about conspiracy theories. Maybe if you slipped a crisp, new $10 bill into the Card Saver behind the card too.........

I don't think it is conspiracy theories...all of this grading is based on human judgment - and that is never 100% consistent. I'm sure PSA runs quality control tests by sending the same cards through multiple times to see if the same grades are given. I know I would if I was running the business. It's impossible to reach 100% consistency. How many times on this forum are there threads that say things like "how the hell did that get an 8, it looks more like a 6" or "don't you think this should be a 9, instead of an 8." In theory an 8 is an 8...when you add human error to the process, it can be anything.

The biggest problem with this, assuming the premise that there are times when grading is more strict than others is correct, is by the time you have information (grades pop) it's generally about two months old the day you get it, therefore worthless. Whoever has recent poppage of this set probably sent them in in Oct/Nov outside of the Jordan which will be graded harshly regardless of when it was sent in.

Personally, I've never tried to sub any baskets. I've never even seen one in a PSA holder before! I'm guessing corners and edges would be grade killers!

I think it would depend on if we are talking wooden baskets, fabric baskets, or maybe wire baskets. I think wire would grade the best...it's a new PSA classification

    Public skool grammar.

  • It's just a question. No conspiracy beliefs or oddball angle. My personal experience with this set has been very good or very average. The collection I have all came from the same rip and are all comparable condition but the grading doesn't suggest that. Chalk it up to being naive I suppose.

I recently sent in 10 86s cards in which my 2 year old son colored on and bent up just a bit. Thankfully they still came back 10s so now is the time to sub OP.
