This is scary.

With the price of high end vintage going through the roof, I am concerned they won't stop with just coins.

Rather than faking packs or cellos, my concern is, can actual cards now be 're-created now to the point where they are impossible to distinguish from the real deal.

No it's still up in the coin forum.

I suppose anything is possible these days. I know the folks who play Magic were up in arms about fakes that were coming out of Asia. The only way you could distinguish the fakes would be by folding the card. Cards produced by WOTC won't crease, whereas the fakes will (or you had to tear them open to see what kind of paper was being used, or something like that).

IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED

I say yes. Isnt this the reason PSA wont grade certain cards like 84 star Jordans?

Now if records exist somewhere out there in which the type of paper produced from Company X, and the inks made by Company Y when it comes to certain years of production for a paper product were to be stumbled upon then the trial and error of counterfeiting cards or comics would become a hell of a lot easier.
I know some damn good Magic the Gathering counterfeits of cards like the Black Lotus and moxes exist, but thankfully in the style the playing cards were made in layers they were never perfectly counterfeited. Since sports cards and comics are printed on a single layer of paper or card stock for the most part things could get very scary if records do exist from the 50s/60s etc. of card stock and inks being used. Just like with a classic car being able to reproduce an original factory paint job, the mixes of some factory paints from way back in the day still exist.

I think when it comes to say Star cards and minor league cards due to the poor quality paper stock and lower quality inks that were used this type of item is a bit easier to attempt to counterfeit and make look pretty close to the real thing.
Mainstream products would be a lot harder to produce.
Sadly when it comes to saying just collect modern cards instead of old cards this doesn't always work out to well either. There have been known issues of cards being backdoored like with Topps during Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson's rookie year in which they are 100% legit cards for the autograph issues but are forged signatures. All it takes is something like this happening with moderns more and more and even these can become a huge question mark in the collecting community.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
