Buyer pays return shipping if it is a return.
In the seller's return policy, the seller chooses as to who pays for return shipping. Most sellers have the buyer pay for it.
That is correct, mlbfan2. I have never seen a seller's return policy offer to have the seller pay return shipping. But it is possible!
If the seller has a "hassle free" return option, the buyer does not have to pay for return shipping and can print a prepaid return label right from the auction once the claim is filed. I'm not sure if it's ebay or the seller who foots the bill in that case.

(sorry I can't post as a link - stupid Quick Reply)
This is when they change their mind, for whatever reason, not when we make a mistake(which we do sometimes). It's unfair but the seller has no choice unless they want to receive negative feedback from time to time.
Try replying with: "Thank you for contacting us. Sorry to hear about the mistake. We'd be happy to accept a return on the item. Please initiate a return via the eBay system and once the item has be received, we will issue a full refund of your original purchase price and shipping." Some people are honest and will go from there.
If they do fight it all, just be glad that, at most, we're talking being out 2-way shipping on an item which is under $10. Yes, it is a high % of the item, but probably small in the grand scheme of things.

Although its not so egregious that I would block him.

Only if the case is opened as not described / not authentic or any option that triggers a seller refund of shipping. Opening "hassle" free returns with did not like it or any of the first 4 or 5 reasons forces the buyer to pay for shipping via their own eBay.

These are minor issues, imo. The real problems are the ones who know which options to use in advance to get full refunds with return shipping, or who claim an empty box with no contents.

In any marketplace and in life you have to deal with that. .00000171% of transactions in the sports card category have this problem on eBay. It sucks that you have participated in that percent.

Yes, but the math is small consolation at present to addictedtoebay in this thread.
