Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

Fun facts or trivia. Everyone add a post.

Title says it all since it's been so slow around here. Since bball not here and football is almost over. Ill start.

1.On another thread flcardtrader posted the lyrics of "Different Strokes" -

"Now the world don't move to the beat of just one drum."

Who sang that song? I was shocked. He told the story in an interview. Then when you go back and listen to a song 99% of us know, his voice so obvious and a very cool surprise. Like duh!

Without googling it? Its a very famous person not known for singing.

I won't spoil it. Worth looking up if you guys don't know.

2. To keep it sports - Which HOF finished his career with exactly 3000 hits?

3. Who has exactly the same number of hits for both home and away games? 1815 hits home and 1815 hits away.

*****I vote that you can post cool trivia not necessarily sports related if you want. And add some sports if some get upset.

**** Just trying to keep the board fun, interesting and alive. Ill post the answers in a little bit.

  • Sorry about the lines.

I recommend going back and listening to the song for the #1 trivia question. You'll be like "oh yeah, that is him!!!"

Edited to song is "Different Strokes". Brain fart. Same writer or something. His wife wrote Facts of life and I think he was in it. Sorry.

Your baseball trivia is easy. Clemente and Musial. Didn't have to look up.

Facts of life is just a guess, but I'll say George Clooney since I think that's the show he used to be on.

I looked up who sang the Facts of Life song - never heard of her

The Facts of Life theme was sung by a woman, no?
  • DarinDarin Posts: 7,291 ✭✭✭✭✭
    So its not George Clooney?
  • DarinDarin Posts: 7,291 ✭✭✭✭✭
My second guess is George Clooney's wife. Was she born yet?

    Bruce Jenner?
  • Thicke as a brick.

Okay I just saw the thread BBCK was talking about.

It was the lyrics to Different Strokes, not Facts of Life!

Fun factoid...Take away all of Aaron's 755 HR's and he still has over 3,000 hits. 3,016 to be exact.

George Brett never hit .300 in the minors, yet made a run at .400 in the majors, finishing at .390 in 1980.

He idolized Carl Yastrzemski, and emulated his stance, which you can see in Brett's rookie card where he's holding the bat high. Compare both players 75 topps card and see the similarity.
Then Charley Lau, the Royals hitting coach, started working with Brett, first telling him he was no Carl Yastrzemski. What developed was Brett's classic swing that started with the bat pretty much resting
    on his left shoulder.

Im an idiot. At least when its late and the storm of the century is outside.

Someone posted the answer if it isn't apparent. Good answer. Did you know that or looked it up? Once I replayed the song, his voice is very distinctive.

Yes, Clemente was easy and I couldn't recall Musial. Carew for some reason stands out. But I found the synchronicity interesting.
I think I knew that about Aaron which is very cool.
  • Ok. Try this. Warren Spahn retired with the same number of wins as number of hits in the majors. 363.

I'm sure I don't have all my facts straight, but I remember hearing earlier this year that the Green Bay Packers did not have a single player on their roster that had ever played for another NFL team. Even if that's remotely close, that's incredible. That means that for each the last 10 years, an average of 5.3 draft picks or undrafted free agents are part of the roster.

    I thought this odd..

When Japanese home run king Sadaharu Oh hit his 715th home run on Oct. 11, 1976, the on-deck hitter was Davey Johnson, the same man who was in the hole when Aaron hit his 715th. The only other man to be a teammate of both home run kings was Jack Lind, who played for the Milwaukee Brewers during Aaron's two-year tenure (1975 to 1976) with the then-American League club.

Julius Peppers came from Carolina, off the top of my head. It was a pretty huge signing.
But I heard something similar. Like 90% never knew life other than a packer. whatever it ism it's an awesome stat.

I found this on Twitter. It was posted by ESPN a few months ago.

"Crazy Stat Of The Day: Of the 53 players on Packers active roster, just 3 have played for another team. #HomeGrown"

The 3 players are Peppers, Kuhn, and Jones.

Fairly certain that I read this in one of Ron Luciano's books - "The Umpire Strikes Back" maybe - that there used to be an interference rule involving the home plate umpire on foul pop-ups. Basically when the ball was fouled behind the plate, if the catcher tossed away his mask and the mask hit the umpire, the batter would automatically be called out. I have no recollection of the reasoning why. They had to change the rule when catchers - Bill Freehan in particular - stopped trying to catch the pop-up and instead would try to nail the ump with the mask.

This still cracks me up even if it isn't true.

And don't get me started with "Good Luck Mr. Gorski" by Neil Armstrong.

Make it 4 (at least) - add Guion. Def tackle played 6 yr for the Vikings. Dont know how twitter could miss that.

He served a 3-game suspension earlier this season, so I guess that means he wasn't on the active roster at the time.
  • More fun facts:

Gary Coleman was not an NFL punter, nor was Todd Bridges ever The Dude. And Dana Plato was absolutely not a philosopher.

Now, someone please tell me who signed that baseball. I'm losing sleep.

  • Most Brady-Manning games have been won by the team with the better defense. It's almost as if there's more to it than QB vs. QB! - so it is said.

Lebron says he had no role in Blatt's firing. Is this a fact? Hmm
