2004 Wisconsin Quarter Extra Leaf

I noted that couple years back these extra leaf bring in big money. But not anymore, a 67 set ( low and high) just sold on eBay $815. Just wondering anyone still collect or interested in them anymore? Thank you

However, there are quite a few varieties that still bring big money, but they are so scarce that you don't hear much about them.

I have to believe the scarcities from this series have a very bright future.
The high leaf and low leaf combined aren't as numerous as '16-D dimes.
I'm happy with them. They aren't MS67 but they also didn't cost me $800+.
I like them for what they are, and the fact that they are NOTICABLY DIFFERENT than the other WI quarters.
Maybe not as classically cool as a 55/55 DDO Lincoln, but still cool nonetheless.
They are slabbed MS63 PCGS now and put away for my son.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I bought mine raw, from Rick Snow, when they came out.

Not trying to rain on the parade, but this is a totally uninspiring coin. Sure glad somebody loves it though.
The design isn't great and the regular issue isn't great but I consider these to be entirely different types than the regular issue. To me this makes them fascinating.
This is the first time I have seen a MS67 set sell under $1K, but maybe only bargain hunters are looking and placing bids. As in all auction settings one sale does not define the market. I doubt you'll find many sellers besides auction liquidators (this seller) willing to sell at $800 for these sets in MS67 NGC. (PCGS MS67 are much higher)
Well, just Love coins, period.
I like these, too. But, I don't think it's fair to call them "rarities." There are thousands of these available for purchase.
I see your point in many, many available. Saying that, you can say the famous '55 Double die Cents are available in thousands as well. We know the '55 DD is a rarity, would you still suppose that this Quarter should not be called a rarity?

I remember one of the first Leaf "calculated error coins" was purchased on ebay for fifty bucks. Sent to PCGS and graded MS 67. There wasn't even a price guide on it at that time. It sold to Speety, a young and upcoming numismatist taken too soon from us [RIP].
And also (if my memory serves me) it sold for $867 on ebay. As I remember, the very next week the price guide had the coin listed at $2500. Don't recall if it was the high leaf , but want to say it was.

How many of the SQs are inspiring? They all kinda suck
Ask 100 random people what pops into their mind when you mention Wisconsin, or Arizona or New Jersey. Take the most common response and design around that.
I remember some committee in Iowa soliciting ideas for the Iowa SQ. I suggested a single inscription that "Iowa isn't the end of the world, but you can see it from here." The non-resident version was "Iowa isn't the end of the world, but you can see it from there."

Ha ha, OK, point taken. How about none of them inspiring. I just think because there is an interesting story, and not that many made, that interest (= read demand) may not follow. Again, happy for those that like them, but honestly would not want one if it was offered to me for free.
Hey, if I didn't care so much about your opinion I wouldn't work as hard on changing it.
Imagine that one of your favorite coins came in three types and three different designs! I'm sure you wouldn't care why they existed this way and you'd want one of each.
Of course if you don't care about or collect the WI Denver quarter than this won't apply to you.

The 1955 doubled die cent is no "rarity." You can buy it any day, at almost any venue, in any quantity you like. All you need is the money. We shouldnt confuse "rarity" with value or "coolness."

I don't recall Speety being into WI Extra Leaf Quarters. Are you thinking of Notlogical?
The first extra leafs certified by PCGS were sold to Q. David Bowers (by me) for $100 each and I believe they graded MS66. Ft. Lauderdale FUN, 2005. The first MS67 graded by PCGS came much later, while NGC was cranking them out.
The $50 price was my standing offer to buy them raw from Tucson residents who found them at the banks. Remember they were mostly found here in Tucson. If figured that no matter how common they were, they should be worth that. Turns out they are about as rare as a 1937-D 3-legged buffalo and the 1955 DD - in other words, not too rare, but scarce enough to warrant the price of $50 at the time.
It took about two years to get these into the price guides and when they did, the prices were on the low side, but over time those prices became high for the market.
Wondercoin.
I am still a buyer of a High Leaf in PCGS MS67. If you sold me one, there would be no talk of weak prices.
Wondercoin.
+1
