63 Rose RC - Telltale Signs of a Fake?

I recently purchased a 63 Set from a well-known dealer (D&A) and wanted to get some input on the signs of a fake Rose Rookie.

I have no reason to believe the one I received is a fake, however, there are a couple of concerns I have:

1) When I put the Rose up against the Mantle and Aaron, it would appear the back stock is a bit whiter on the Rose than the Aaron and Mantle

2) The centering is just "too good"

The card is here:

For those in the know, what are the signs I should be looking at to detect a fraud vs. a real one?

I will be sending this one to PSA for peace of mind but would appreciate any bit of input before I do.

Thanks for your help.

The fakes are very very good. It has stopped me from buying a raw one to have signed. I'd like to know more as well

I wouldn't be sorry for asking, it pays to check! Your card is fine of course as far as genuineness goes. Things I'd be more prone to check on a Rose rookie, after confirming its authenticity, would be any recoloring of the top corners, any trimming issues. And thankfully your nice card appears fine in that sense as well.

The outstanding centering! It's better than my example. image The paper stock color on the back is well within an acceptable shade of whiteness -- if you buy any set, assuming it was put together one card at a time from various sources, some cards naturally will have a range of fading/darkening/toning, from a fresh-out-of-a-pack appearance to it rested against a glue-stained cardboard album in a hot attic for 40+ years. The only way a group of cards might appear very consistent as far as back whiteness goes, is if they were purchased at the same relative time and kept together in the same environment over the years.

    Good stuff Original - thanks.

Feeling much better about this purchase now and hoping to get a 5 or 6 on the Rose once submitted.

The rose looks just fine to me also. No different than mine.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • Looks good.

There were a lot of counterfeit Roses a few years ago. You could spot them by holding them up to a bright light-you could see through them.
